Elayne's Story
Life has been a roller coaster ride!! Contact me elaynewood and my provider is bellsouth.net or 865.774.2700. After HS, I attended college in Atlanta where I studied Interior Design. I married and moved first to Florida where I loved going to the beach in the mornings and working in the evenings. Then I moved back to TN; went to UT, had a son, Bobby, in 1975 and a daughter, Ronica, in 1977 - just 1 week before her dad had to report to Ft. Worth, TX. We joined him when she was 8 weeks old and lived there for almost 3 years.
My dad was diagnosed with cancer in late 1978 and I came home for several months to care for him. He passed away in 1979. We moved to GA in mid-1980, then back to TN.
The children grew up much smarter than their mom!! Bobby graduated 7th and Friendliest in his class, Ronica (Now pic above) was a cheerleader and Salutatorian.
Bobby now lives in England with his wife Laura, and daughters, Jade and Ellie. He is a counselor at a residential school for autistic boys. I do miss him, but I think he should experience all he can while he is young and has the chance!! I have always taught him there was a much bigger world out there than our little town in E TN. "WHAT WAS I THINKING?"
Ronica graduated from UT with a BS in Microbiology, (I barely passed Mr. Lynch's Biology!) and a second BS in Medical Technology. She works in the lab at ParkWest Hospital. All that $$ on 2 degrees..now she plays in pee and poop all day!
She married her hs sweetheart, Derrick in 1999.
One week after the 9/11 tragedy, she delivered my first grandchild, a little girl named Macy Blayke. Granddaughter #2 is Madelyn Taylor, born March 9, 2006. What joys! They are Gram's angels and the very lights of my life!! Ronica, Derrick and the girls recently m...Expand for more
oved to Farragut. They attend First Baptist Concord.
Speaking of 9/11, that day was one of the saddest, and most fear-filled of my life. Security at the plant (K-25) was always something I took for granted, now I was scared. For the first time in my life, I was afraid of what I would wake up to the next day. Family has always been important to me, and I made a vow that year to contact some of the people who had crossed my life over the years, but were out of touch.
I now have contact with my half-brother, and 2 half -sisters, one of whom I had not seen or spoken to since my dad's funeral. I am in closer contact with aunts, uncles, and cousins. I found several old friends through Classmates. Several of them have cancer and I receive regular updates on their progress.
We rented a cabin in PF for my 50th birthday weekend (the 29th anniversary of my 21st birthday!) 40 of my friends and family came from Missouri, TN, GA, and Texas. Among them was my oldest friend, Bill, who lived in Burchfield Heights. I have known Bill since we were 2; he was the boy who first kissed me when I was 6 (he was 7!!)
In 2003, we built my dream...a cabin near the Smoky mountains!
In daddy's footsteps, I worked at one of the Oak Ridge plants until I retired January 31, 2007. Though "officially" retired, I keep busy. I spend time as much time as I can with my grandchildren. I own a travel agency, have a stained glass studio, love to cook, and am also trying to write a book..so life is never dull. I am off (alone) to England (to visit Bobby & family), then on to Scotland & Ireland for the Summer '08. When I return, come up to our mtn cabin. We'll sit on the front porch, have some iced tea, and catch up while we rock the day away! Call me at 865-774-2700. Love ya!
