Elgen Grigoriev:
CLASS OF 1959
University of Washington Class of 1959
Seattle, WA
Elgen's Story
I've just arrived to Seattle for taking classes in the U of W, department of Architecture and Urbanism, Elgen, 1959.
On this photo I'm sitting on the "Frosh pond's" edge in the middle of the U of W Campus. Spring, 1959.
This photo is representing our students' snow pleasure time in Mount Rainier National Park. Spring 1959. I'm standing the 5-th from left, side-by-side with the tall girl. What was her name and how called her boyfriend holding her with hand? That¿s the puzzle of this picture. Elgen.
Attention all Classmates, please!!!
Well, I have been intended to come to Seattle and visit the party specially organized of this account - ¿Elgen¿s Event of Celebration the 50-year of coming to Seattle. But unfortunately I would not be able even to bye tickets for myself and for my wife to get a fly overseas.Yes it¿s true ¿ the salary of professor (in our country) does not allow one to save or collect enough money for such a Journey abroad. But I really have been planning to get to Seatlle ¿ the City of my dream after 50 years ot leaving it! Frankly speaking, I hoped that the Alumni Committee of the U of W will be the sponsor of our event, who would collect money (personally people were ready to donate for this ¿Classmates Celebration devoted to the 50-year of Graduating Schools of 1959 of the U of W). But it seems, that despite of vast publicity on the "Classmates.com" cite in Internet of about of this our initiative (known as ¿Elgen¿s Event of Celebration the 50-year of coming to Seattle) there were no money collected for financing this very promising adventure! So, I will not come to Seattle ¿ the City of my dreams! So long, friends! April, the 7 -th,2009.

"My visit and stay in US and
at the U of W".
Fifty years have passed, since I've
got to New York,
After flight coast-to-coast -
Wow! Seattle I saw!
By exchanging with students
we started that work:
That was way, how we shared
THE "LATE FIFTIES THAW"!
*******
I went strolling along
through an ocean of light,
Culture shock! made by cars,
advertisements and stores!
In New York I've got feeling:
there should be the Might
Searching SOUL of PEACE-LIABLE,
all-human Source.
*******
Yes, New York was enormous -
Man-made rocks of highlands,
And One hundred-and-two-storey
building - "EMPIRE"
Was so high, elevated w...Expand for more
ith
muscle-bound violence.
It was shocking and worth-wile
for make me inspired.
*******
It broke truths,which seemed always
were "solid" and "crystal".
Central Park seemed has whispered:
¿Rove nights, and get rest!¿:
Self New York was a vagrant
with face of tough bristle:
"unshaven" skyscrapers
burst up like bird's crest.
(1959-2009).

Now I tell you some facts.
In June of 1959, I have accomplished (together with one my college) to receive my six months training at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Final Report I submitted to the Office of the Dean, personally to Arthur P. Herrman, the Dean.
He wrote in his approval paper:
"I believe this has been a fruitful experience for both the visiting students and our school and believe it to be extremely worth while, and hope that some exchange of students and ideas between the two countries may continue".

Next will be my story (in verses) written in fond remembrance of my former friend, professor of the University of Washington
Werner C. Quast. (He died in November 6, 1997).
That was 1959. On my photo I'm standing against a background of natural panorama of Grand Canyon, Colorado.
My another photo; wow! Tat was 1959's squirting splash and splatter of the geyser Faithful in the Yellowstone National Park.
