Elisa's Story

Right after Beverly, I earned a B.A. in Psych. I then decided to backpack around Europe for 2 months and was bit by a travel bug. 72 countries later, I'm still traveling to see more of the worlds people on roads less traveled. I love learning about other cultures. Here are some of the more adventurous things I've done: parasailed in Bali, rode a camel around the Pyramids in Egypt, ballooned over the Serengeti during migration. I caught Cholera after rafting the torrid rapids on the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. My proudest moment was crossing the finish line at the Dublin marathon after raising $6000+ for the Leukemia Society. That was my first of 3 marathons and I finished a tri and the 39 mile Avon walk for Breast Cancer. I went Piranha fishing in the Amazon Jungle, roamed Machu Picchu; shopped Turkish Bazaars. folk danced in Poland, hiked a glacier in Iceland, went dog sledding in Greenland. I saw the Russian Ballet perform Swan Lake and played with animals at the Moscow Circus. I went on Tiger safaris in India via elephant back and, I prayed with Monks in Tibet, went aerobatic in Australia and New Zealand and rolled a plane myself. I taught kids Duck, Duck Goose in Papua New Guinea and in remote parts of Ethiopia and Ghana, I was helicoptered onto the top of a ship to cruise the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. I camped Uluru and Kata Juta in Australia. I learned to throw a boomerang (quite well I may add) by aboriginals. I learned to play a Didgeridoo and swam in Croc known waters. I snorkeled with Manta Rays and Sting Rays, I swam with a pod of over 400 dolphins. I saw a Tasmanian Devil in Tasmania, celebrated a birthday climbing to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. I was stung by two Jellyfish while snorkeling The Great Barrier Reef (Ouch). New Zealand was the most adventurous. My highest bungee was 1300 ft over a canyon with a 440 ft bungee cord. I did several skydives; hang-glided, climbed a telephone poll to ...Expand for more
jump for a trapeze pole (which I missed). I repelled, abseiled in a 12-mile delta; flipped on Kaituna, the largest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. I stood on 60 million year old boulders in the ocean and zorbed (plugged inside a ball with water and was rolled down a hill) luged down a steep 3000 ft track, pampered myself in a great natural mud pool. I partook in many Kava Festivals in Fiji (Yuck!) I played in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand for a couple of months. I explored a great deal of China and played with a panda. I stayed in the jungles in Borneo playing with the Orangutans and I hiked with the Dani & Lani (original headhunters and cannibals) in Indonesia in remote Irian Jaya. I spent a lot of time in remote villages meeting local tribesmen and villagers. I met the Padong (long neck tribe with brass rings)and visited their schools teaching them games and bringing gifts. I guess it makes for an interesting resume. I slept on the sand dunes in Timbuktu, Mali during the Mali Desert Festival, I've explored the Voodoo routes in West Africa. I fell in love with Ethiopia and the fascinating Mursi tribes (lip disks). I've been at the top of Masada in Israel and floated in the Dead Sea. I repelled down a 350 ft waterfall in Uganda and went gorilla trekking in both Uganda and Rwanda where I hiked the same route as Dyan Fossey from Gorillas in the Mist. I rode a camel along the rose rock dwellings in Petra. I've enjoyed the city viewin Dubai from the tallest building in the world and transitioned well into the deserts of Abu Dhabi for crazy sand dunes 4 wheeling. It all makes for an interesting resume. What's next? Climbing a glacier and sea kayaking in Antarctica. I'm shooting for Jan 2015! Currently, I love being an event coordinator at the Skirball Cultural Center. I look forward to seeing everyone October 18, 2014 for our 30th. The 20th was great but I hope for an even bigger crowd. See you in 2014!
