Elissa's Story
I moved from California in April of '94 to Delaware with my parents and brother Mike. There I went to college and graduated with an AD in nursing. I met my now husband while he was stationed in Dover, DE in the Air Force. When he got out of the service he went home to Independence, IA. I still had a year of school left, but we stuck it out and when I graduated I moved to IA to be with him. WOW! What a shock. I had never been away from home, let alone that far from my family. It was not easy--major culture shock. Going from thousands of people in one small area to hundreds of people spread across lots of area. Not an easy move at all, but I survived. I had moved to IA in 1998 and we got married in May 2002. In 2003 we had our son Matthew, in 2007 our daughter Brooklyn was born. Matthew is now in 3rd grade and Brooklyn just started kindergarten. happy to have them both in school, but boy did the time fly. Tim works as a Lineman in town at the city light plant and I work in town at the county hospital now as a surgical nurse. I started there 14 years ago as a CNA and became a staff med-surg nurse after passing my boards. I also work in the ER every third weekend. I have been in surgery for almost 4 years now and just love it. We enjoy camping, traveling, we get the pleasure of going to the Masters golf tournament each year in GA and at the same time get to see lots of family members--kind of a family reunion time. The kids keep us plenty busy with their activities and we try to find time to do our things too. We frequent NASCAR races in the surrounding areas - Chicago, Michigan, Kansas City, and our own Newton, IA. Well, I think that is about all for now, hope I didn't bore ya too bad. Elissa
