Elizabeth's Story
Life
Betsy Africano Greer was born in Jersey City, NJ but her first move was to be across the river to New York City. This began a lifetime of travel and moves. After her 1955 graduation from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, NJ, she received her BS in Education in 59 from Douglass College in New Brunswick, NJ and her MA from the U. of Northern Colorado in 79. While teaching in Long Beach, CA, she met and married George, a Naval officer with the promise to see the world! Their two daughters, now married, were born in Panama and raised in Japan. Betsy and George have 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. In 1993 , Betsy retired from teaching elementary school in Fairfax, VA . ry salary bonus and a national history award from the Sons of the American Revolution for her work with elementary students in preparation for the National History Competition. Betsy was active with US Girl Scouts, both in Japan and the U.S. as a leader and trainer and is a past president of a Republican womens club. In 1992 Betsy and her husband relocated to St. Augustine, FL Her passions have and do include grassroots politics, travel, reading, bridge, the theater, her grandchildren, and her most recent hobby, learning to play the guitar. Betsy substitute teaches, is an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international educational organization, is involved in many activities with Trinity Episcopal Parish, and frequently travels to Maryland, Virginia, and California to see family.
