Elizabeth's Story
My responses from the prompts of the first 10 ideas for Q&A.
I imagine that old friends (if they remember me at all) think the following things about me: I am not afraid to express my individuality and be myself (suede bowling shoes for footwear, anyone?) I am a good student and esp. loved language-related classes like English, French, Speech, etc. I am funny or clever and like repartee. I am also shorter than average height. All of those things are still true about me, oddly enough. I think I am a more mature version of the person I was at 13 and 14.
I did not have huge plans of what I wanted to do "when I grew up". Maybe that is because I felt pretty grown up to myself. It turns out that this was fairly accurate. Some of the decisions I made as a teen-ager (even the ones that were painful at the time) have contributed to the richness of my life.
Favorite ways that I relax, currently, include sitting on my front porch glider and watching the park, the traffic, the park-goers. Spending time with family, social networking.
Probably the wildest thing I did at RHS was to help stage a protest to get permission to paint the bleacher seats of the athletic field Maroon and White (I noticed a few years ago that the tradition is still in tact). At CHS I organized a protest of my P.E. Class about having to wear uniforms that did not protect us from the cold. I think ...Expand for more
there is a trend in there.
I am trying to follow the story ideas here, and at work I need so many objects and resources at my fingertips. But if I spoke of non-material things I would need to have a pleasant environment, challenging work, and a keen mind to deal with the day-to-day.
My hero, pretty much hands down, is Martin Gray. Writer, speaker, activist, holocaust survivor.
I have lived in the St. Louis metro area since I was 3. Mostly in St. Louis city with a few years on the Illinois side of the river and a few in unincorporated St. Louis County.
There are a few people I hope to find again so that I can thank them for their part in helping shape my life. Dave Herrmann, Nancy Giglio, Carlos Wallace, Alan Muirhead to name a few. There were two others on the list and I have found them through Facebook.
Unbelievable, the suggestions they have for obsessions are all things I can't stand. Thumbs down to sports, reality TV, and even though it is not popular to say it -- Pets. I like my aquarium screen saver because I don't have to take care of it.
What has been my biggest surprise in life? I would maybe guess that I am a bit surprised that it took me until I turned 50 years old to go to college. I suppose I would have imagined when I was young that I would get to that a lot sooner.
Maybe I will come back to this again later. 10 out of 30 is okay for today.
