Elizabeth's Story
Life
Liz Smith earned a BachelorÂs degree in Astronomy from Whitman College with a focus on obtaining a general science background for use in media production. Liz is currently obtaining a Masters in Science and Natural History Filmmaking from Montana State University, the only program of its kind in the US. She worked as a science reporter and cameraman for the NBC affiliate in Montana and currently produces and shoots for NASA TV at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Liz started an independent documentary company, WorkinSync Productions, in January of 2003. Since then, her films have screened at numerous festivals, including the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the International Wildlife Film Festival, where "Tree Rings: Counting the Years of Global Warming" recently won an award. That's the official version anyway. Spent my years after SF in good old Walla Walla, Washington for college where I met the love of my life - my dog, Brandle. After four years of unmentionable adventures, Brandles and I moved to Bozeman, Montana to attend grad film school at MSU. We spent most of our time hiking, skiing and playing by the rivers. After the first year of classes, I worked at NBC doing all kinds of things, from shooting high school volleyball to being on camera as a science reporter. I got a job working for NASA TV at Goddard in Washington, DC and Brandles and I drove cross country last April and now live in beautiful Takoma Park, MD. I spend most of my time working, which I love, shooting independent work, and playing with the dog at the beach. We'll probably be in DC for at least another year or two - if you're ever in town, give us a call, we'd love to lend you our couch.
