Elizabeth Thibodeau:

CLASS OF 1989
Beaumont, TX

Elizabeth's Story

Life After high school I immediately joined the "work force" and began my life. I ventured out on my own learning how to make a dollar stretch. My job experiences included Emergency Medical Technician, administrative assistant, office manager, assistant bookkeeper/payroll clerk, financing and insurance as well as new truck secretary for a couple of local auto dealers. During the fall of 1993 I attended Lamar University Continuing Education where I successfully earned my Basic Emergency Medical Technician license. Unfortunately that is a job that does not pay well, otherwise I would still be out there working as an EMT and would have become a Paramedic. Because the pay scale was not the best I had to give it up or starve to death which lead me back to office work. I would not trade my experiences for anything in the world since that is how I have become a successful payroll clerk and benefits manager for a rapidly growing payroll firm. I married the most wonderful man I have ever known (besides my Daddy) in 1997. He is truly a blessing to me, I wish every woman could have a man like mine. Some of our adventures include trying to run a couple of businesses of our own, as well as relocating for a short time to North Carolina, but rapidly became home sick and returned. I began working for the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce in 2001 where I stayed until February 2007. Since then, I have been working for the payroll firm. My husband is the service manager for a major area tractor dealership. My husband and I enjoy spending valuable time with our family and friends and try to travel as much as possible with our loving little companion. Together, the three of us (an...Expand for more
d our home) have managed to survive two major hurricanes, Rita in 2005 and Ike in 2008. Both storms were nerve racking. For Rita we tried to evacuate but spent six and a half hours on the road from Lumberton to Warren, thank God we had friends in Warren to stay with. We rode the storm out in a garage, and we will never do that again. During Ike, we chose not to evacuate and stayed with our neighbor accross the street so that he would not be alone, he has health problems and his wife works for the state prison, unfortunately she has to go where the prison evacuates to prisoners to. And once more, we will not do that again. Needless to say, if this area is predicted to take another direct hit from low a category three storm or better... we are out of here!! Two of my hobbies are playing pool and singing, and a big dream of mine would be to sing professional(that is a very big dream, Ha! Ha!). We get involved and help organize fundraisers/benefits to raise money for those who have lost loved ones suddenly or have fallen seriously ill and do not have insurance to cover the costs. I have been known to help raise some money at these fund raisers by singing a song or two. There is a lot of fun involved as well as very hard work, however, it is extremely rewarding at the end of the day to know that you have helped some one in need. Our Sunday's, and an occasional Saturday, are spent cooking all day and watching NASCAR races. I have experienced a lot of ups and downs through out the years but have realized that no one is perfect and I would not be the person I am today had I not gone through what I went through yesterday. I never thought my life would be so good!
