Ellen's Story
Okay, Sue(Krawcyk), you're the one that got me curious about this website. So... what have I been doing for the past 25 years? Let's see... I travelled alot -- I lived in Spain a few different time and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Yemen. I graduated from Harvard after that and got a Master's in International Education. After my father passed away priorities changed and I stayed closer to home. I lived in D.C. working for the Peace Corps. Then, I taught ESL(
English as a Second Language) at St. Joseph College in West Hartford to Japanese exchange students. I got into business for awhile and worked for Amica, then had a total change back to teaching and I taught ESL at Goodwin College in East Hartford which I loved and then took ARC(The Alternate Route to Certification) and became a Spanish teacher, which I've been doing for 3 years. I had some health issues there for awhile -- I found out I was bi-polar -- and struggled with that but managed to still work and do other things. I got into hospice volunteering about 7 years ago to deal with my Dad's death to leukemia. I ...Expand for more
also just finished a training called, "In Our Own Voice" which is run by NAMI(The National Alliance for Mental Illness) and I will be speaking publicly about breaking the stigma of mental illness. It's an issue near and dear to my heart and I am writing a book about it this summer with my mother and sisters and am also doing consulting work with a pediatrician affiliated with the Harvard Medical School who received a grant for research on mental health issues and asked me to work with him. I got married 3 years ago and my husband, Jim, and my stepson, Dylan, and I love to hike, climb, camp and generally do a lot of outdoor activities. Jim's a great cook and between the two of us we do a lot of entertaining and socializing. Jim's trade is art restoration and he worked for many years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He did his apprenticeship in Italy for 3 years and we hope to retire there some day. I'd love to hear from the Class of '83 or others that visit the site that I knew. People I haven't been in touch with I'd be happy to get an email from.
