Ellen's Story

Life Went from Ann Arbor High to Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a violin performance major. Transferred to Oberlin College after freshman year; graduated with honors in English (1968). Received M.A. in English (1969) and Ph.D. in Medieval English literature (1974) from University of Wisconsin, with edition of 12th century Life of St. Francis as dissertation. Received into Catholic Church during gradua...Expand for more
te studies (1971). Following graduation entered the Monastery of St. Therese (cloistered Carmelites) in the Archdiocese of Detroit with religious name Sister Mary Elizabeth. Elected Prioress in 2000.
