Ellen's Story

Let's see now...... after HS I hung around the Willingboro area for a spell then started working in the garment industry at Burlington Coat Factory, promoted to a job in Phila then headed on down to Baltimore for a better job. I did some traveling to Europe for the company I worked for which was a blast. They paid. Then I married for the first time. My husband turned out to be a wife beater so after 5 weeks I left. After the divorce I drove cross country (took me 3 months). That had to be one of the best adventures of my life. I got to see things you can't even get near today. Once back from that trip I returned to NJ and another job in the garment industry.'' At 32 I started riding Enduros through the Pine Barrons. Amazing. Left the garment industry and went to work as a lineman (person) for NJ Bell. Stayed with them for 23 years, was lucky enough to get an early reitrement package and took off in a cloud of dust. To young to be retired I went into dog grooming and did that for 4 years. My mom came to live with me due to health reasons and after a year she asked me to quite my job and stay home with her. That was ok for a couple of years then she started to need more attention and could not be left alone. In the meantime I had gotten married for a second time and my husband came down with lung cancer. So I had him and my mom on Hspice. It wasn't pretty. My husband passed away in July 2007. Being a care giver can really suck. My brother, Ron, was living in AZ at the time and he would fly to NJ to give me a break from care giving...Expand for more
. After awhile that became to expensive as the trips became closer together so mom and I moved to Bisbee, AZ. We moved here in Aug, 2007 (right after my husband passed away) and got a house in Sept 2007. My sister passed away unexpectently in Nov 2007 and mom passed on 3 weeks later in Dec 2007. What a year. Since moving to AZ I've been back to Europe, Kayked the Sea of Cortez in La Paz, MX and spent some time in the caribian. Now I', working on getting my house fixed up the way I want it. Throwing out all the stuff I don't need anymore. Spending time at the resource center in Mexico. Doing reinactments in Tombstone and of course, working with Border Animal Controll. I work at the Farmers Market on Sat mornings and that's about it. I enjoy staying home and reading a good book or just chilling with the neighbors. I've had lots of company from back east and it's fun to take them all around the area. There is so much history here it's hard to keep up with it. After all the touring is through we go across the border into Mexico to have a seafood dinner. My neighbor goes to Mexico to fish and he always gives me fresh bass for the BBQ. So retirement is good. I can't even remember getting up to go to work everyday. Most of the time I don't even know what day it is, nor do I care. We are getting ready for the monsoons to start, which is my faviorite time of the year. The lightning is spectacular. I have a clear view into Mexico and the San Juan Mts. Really good lightining shows from there. Ok. As the piggie once said "that;'s all foks"
