Ellis's Story

I married in '89' and now have two boys Iven, a junior at MTA on the JV and Varsity football team, he has been to the 'states' for the MTA wrestling team and is likely to play Baseball for MTA V or JV. He has been on the honor roll since his first semester at MTA middle school.... He makes me very proud..... He and I are alike and unlike, he is taller than me already at 16yrs old and is likely to be as tall as his grandfather who is 6'4". He shows me how I might have competed in sports if I hadn't had to wear a leg brace..... On that note, I had my bad hip replaced April 15 of 2008. What a friggin' relief. I had gotten to the point where I could barely walk and had to give up almost everything physical and was forced to content myself with being an "at home parent" (mr. mom). Having my hip replaced was a life changing event for me... Superman comes to mind... I have to remind myself how hard it was growing up with that thing on my leg.... Shedding the grief was more difficult than the pain of surgery I think.. When I walk now you can hardly tell anything had ever happened to me. It's amazing what a little chromium cobalt steel can do for a person... Suzanne Burness, my wife was a graduate of MTA as well class of 84 she now works for the Times Record and has done so for 22 plus years. She is everything I could never be... attractive, educated, bold, and most importantly responsible enough for the both of us... My younger son (Izaac) is 8yrs old... I know you're thinking he was an accident but he wasn't. My wife...Expand for more
and I decided to wait 5yrs between kids and despite our wishes, he refused to be conceived until 8yrs had past. He still makes me wait for him every step of the way... I went reluctantly to the '80' reunion, not really sure how people would react, and because I wasn't sure what my '79' classmates would've thought knowing that I did not actually graduate with either class. A difficult decision and one that I will probably never resolve. I may crash that "79" party this time if I can muster the courage and find a way to get myself invited. I had an incredible time at the "80" reunion and will absolutely attend again. My heart does pine for my true class mates though, and I would absolutely leap at the chance to see them as well. Who knows. Even though I earned 7 credits my 5th year at MTA I was short 3 credits.... Booo. So I went back and got my diploma in '2000'.... "Yeah 2000". I'm fairly certain you won't find me at that reunion though. On the upside of all that, Iven my oldest son was able to attend my graduation, just the same way I'll attend his in 2011... Though I don't think Gov. King will speak at his ceremony.... We all live on Baileys Island on 17 Sinett Drive. All happy as can be.... Though 2008 was a hard year for me with the death of my father from mesothelioma, and the death of my mother from cancer in 2009. I am going to have with me all the memories of a lifetime with them as did they with their parents and theirs before them and so on. That is the cycle of life, and that is how it will always be.
