Eloise's Story
I have had a wonderful life! John Leighty and I were married in 1952 after he finished fighting the war with his clarinet.we lived in Pana, IL for three years and John taught instrumental music and I taught just one year for I gave birth to our first daughter, Amy, and I stayed home just being a mother. We moved to Villa Grove where John could be closer to the U of I and finish his Master's Degree. After that we moved to McHenry, IL in 1962 where I still reside. We celebrated the birth of our second and last baby girl, Carol, in 1957. I went back to teaching and I was fortunate to be able to finish my Masters degree before retiring in 1986, we both were able to retire in 1986 and John was able to do what he always wanted to do, play on a dance band, moving throughout the country, even Italy as well. After those days...Expand for more
ended, we spent our winters in Florida where we bought a Condo. This plan lasted til 2013 when John died on March 29, Good Friday. The only "good" thing would be that John would no longer have to fight for his breath for he died of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fybrosis. I am now living out the rest of my life in my McHenry home with a care-giver for I can no longer stand or walk. My three back surgeries only gave me temporary relief, and even though I am very healthy I am confined to my bed or Jazzy, the electric chair I have. Our daughter, Carol, lives in Germany and has since 1979 singing opera in the Coburg Opera House. She is now teaching voice and is an Associate Principal in a Music School in Teirschenreuth, Germany. Since my malady, she comes back home an average of 5 times a year. So.....I have had a wonderful life.
