Elsie's Story

I was married on 3-23-65, I had to go through the school broad to graduate, my 1st husband Waverly had volunteer for the draft, after the sermon I took off on drove to Fort Jackson SC, I used 86 cans of oil in that old auto I had, after his basic training I move to Berkeley, CA, I was going to Seoul Korea, when a ship was hit and all the American had to go back to the united states, I left California and moved back to Chesapeake, while waiting I enrolled in data processing at what is now called tidewater comm. tech. college, I left my hometown and moved to the Bronx, in New York then to Mount Vernor, NY for 6 years I was in the Post Office, Wakefield Station where I was in charge within 250 miles of any direction of people that had moved,, my children was not safe in that city all over I was finding the best was dangerous, I then moved to Northern Va. Dale city, Woodbridge area, where I did numerous of job's including 911 operator, consumer affairs secretary to the director, where I handle Landlord tenants complaints, Northern Va. Community College, secretary science I had suffered with so many asthma attacks , and moving, I was ready to call it quits until I was referral to people with disabilities in between this time I had moved to East Orange New Jersey, then Newark, New Jersey, still the paramedics was called in and out of my home, then back to northern Va. again this time. This time the phone company I was at was closing down and I was told that Quantico Marine Corp Base needed people with disabilities, I had just earned a degree from Howard University this was in 1988, which I did not need only my disability was enough and a another area I look into was real estate broker this came from Jamestown community college, my son Trent had purchased 55 homes in the High Point NC before he was 30 years old with a master degree in indus. force ,Waverly Jr. turned down his 4 year scholarship from WM & Mary college and earned his degree later from Excelsior university Cybersecurity with honor's a 4.0, this is what he is doing today, working out of his home in Laurel MD. I lost plenty moving out of New York but for the sake of my family and the progress they made I think, this was worth given up a career job I had in the Post Office, these people do have people there with disabilities, purple hearts, Politician appointee were the people I worked with in the post office, but could not get hired in Norfolk, Chesapeake, area, which left me moving for my health sake. My 1st marriage ended up in a divorce, my 2nd marriage to a Wilkins, where his uncle was head of the n a a c p in Washington County NC ended up in a death of my husband and his uncle, I give thanks to my teacher's of Crestwood, I was in Crestwood in the 6 grade, where we had no Junior high school, to Mr. David Driver, who allow me to teach our class from the 8th grade to the 12th, history, and government, MR., Nicholson Journalism 1&2 I was the sports editor, Thank You Mrs. Clemmons math & Algebra, Mr. Owens the marching and concert Band, these teacher took over my career with thoughts of them allowing me to be my best, they are most likely gone to be with the Lord but what ever, to my brother Pineapple, Raymond Dixon who is in heaven I thank you for being the competition I needed in Mr. Nicholson class's both you and Ruby Harper I thank God all this time for all of you, every time the thoughts of me being the highest paid employee, while working I think of where all of this came from, my high school, I thank my parenting people for all they did while they were still on earth. I thank the late Bishop Otis Lockett of Greensboro, NC for working with people with all kinds of disabilities and Pastor Joyce Diggs of High Point NC, she has been with me all day and all night long Thank you
