Elton's Story
Going through some old photos, not too long ago and ran across a picture of myself buried in the sand at Jackson Lake. The picture made me remember a story about Tom Weatherbie and I. We had been at the lake partying for a couple of days (I know this is hard to believe but we really were out there partying.) Tom and Linda Larson had just started going "steady" and Tom had Linda's ring on a chain around his neck. Sometime during the day the chain came loose and Tom lost her ring on the beach.
The next morning, after the Coors Cloud had gone away, we drove back out to the lake just to see if we could maybe find the ring. Tom wasn't in too big a hurry to tell Linda that he had lost her ring. We got out there about ten o'clock and began to comb the beach. s good as finding a friend from Brush, at Nick's in Snyder, on Saturday night.
Well, after about a half hour of sifting through the sand I was about ready to search out another keg. But instead of that we went back to check another little spot where we had sat during the evening. I walked over to the spot trying to remember who was sitting where. After the smoke cleared from the strain on my brain, I looked down and there was the ring laying next to a pop top and a weathered Zig-zag paper box.
So, yes you can sometimes find a needle in a haystack, but I still wouldn't bet on the friendly face at Nick's in Snyder.
I can't remember for sure but I think this event took place during the celebration for the Class of 68. I may be wrong if anyone else can remember this event...let me know if my timing is right.
