Elva's Story

Life I moved from Calgary to Edmonton in 1970 and finished high school here. I worked for a year between high school and college. Between my 1st and 2nd year of college, I married a classmate. In 1976 I moved to Ft. Sask., just NE of Edmonton, where I lived for 19 years. About 13 years later I went to a career workshop where I was disappointed when they told me that I was in the right career however, they pointed out to me that I was doing the same type of thing in my spare time as what I did at work. They suggested that I balance my life out by getting back into the theatre in my spare time, as I had not done anything with that part of my life for 13 years. Since then I have been very involved with a community drama club acting, directing and everything in between as well as being on their executive. At various points, I have also been involved in a couple of other drama clubs. I have also instilled the love of the theatre in my children as well as both my husbands. I was married for 17 years, and have 2 children (a girl & a boy) and 2 granddaughters. I remarried 9 years later when my children were grown up. I then inherited 2 stepsons who have both since married and had 3 boys and a girl between them, so I now have 6 grandchildren. I was widowed in 2013. ton at the end of grade 11 I completed a 2-year performing arts program at Victoria Composite High School. When I graduated from grade 12 I was accepted into the Television, Stage and Radio Arts program at SAIT. At the last minute, I changed my mind about going (for what I now see was a very stupid reason and I have regretted that decision many times over the years). Over the years I have often wondered what happened to some of the people that I was close to in school. College After high school, I worked for a year before going to Grant MacEwan College. I graduated in 1975 with a Diploma in Adolescent Development. Workplace When I graduated from college I worked for a couple of years with young offenders that were incarcerated. After that, I worked as a Residential Social Worker and a Child & Youth Care Worker until 2008. Since 2008 I have worked as a Licensing Officer, licensing foster homes and group homes for youth. I went on disability in 2013 and officially retired in 2018. While I lived in Ft. Saskatchewan I was a School Trustee for 5 years as well as sitting on other various Boards of Directors over the years. Since retiring, I have been doing a lot of volunteering for different theatre groups in Edmonton and I've also become a Casino Angel. I'm still in Edmonton and can be found at emrice53 using shaw.
