Emilie's Story

My family moved to Frazier Park at the end of 1971 so I didn't get to graduate with the Class of '72 from RHHS. Instead I graduated from Maricopa High School, out by Bakersfield in the San Joaquin Valley. It was quite an experience to go from a school of 2 - 3000 to a graduating class of 27. There were probably 200 kids in the whole school, and that included grades K-12. I married right out of high school and lived in FP for awhile, but the urge to wander was strong. I've moved back and forth over the west coast more times than I can count at this point. About all I can say about those years and my life is that I was a rebel without a clue. Its been an interesting journey and I've learned alot and grown along the way. I guess thats what its all about anyway, eh? Or maybe it really IS the hokey pokey -- I have not been one to keep the same job forever either -- although I did Respirtory Therapy for 20 years in various places. There again, its been an interesting learning experience for me. ...Expand for more
I have had to really come to terms with what I think about life and death... Which all sounds like a bit of a downer, but really my life is good and I'm grateful for all of it. I get to live in Bishop, California. I have a beautiful little place with a great view of the Sierras from my kitchen window. There is a creek in the front yard, and it is peaceful and quiet. The fishing here is spectacular -- as well as the hiking and just generally being-outsdoors-stuff. I really like life in a small town. There are alot of really great people here and Bishop is an artsy, creative kind of a community. I am also spending as much time as I can on the Oregon Coast, especially in the summer. Having grown up as close to the beach as we were in PV, I have never adjusted to the extreme heat of the summers here. And thats okay too -- I love a good road trip! Ideally I'm thinking sometime I would like to work it out so I can spend 5 or 6 months on the Oregon Coast, and the rest of the time here. We'll see.
