Enrique's Story
Life
After graduating from Carpinteria HS, I went off to Westmont College and received a degree in Political Science. I met my future wife the last year of college when I did a study program in Washington, DC. After lots of dating and hopscotching around the world, we finally got married in 1997. In between, I went to American University in DC and received a Masters Degree in International Relations. She got her law degree at George Washington University Since then, I've worked as a political consultant on international development projects which promote democracy mainly in post-war countries. I worked for an international relief and development organization as their Director for Civil Society Initiatives. Now we are residing in Bogota, Colombia. Yes, Colombia! y Director for a USAID-funded program focued on promoting human rights in Colombia. My wife works on a justice reform program also financed by the US government. Basically your tax dollars at work. It´s nice to be in one place since lately my travel schedule had become a little insane -- Kosovo, Bosnia, Angola, South Africa, Georgia, Azerbaijan, mozambique, Guatemala, El Salvador, Macedonia, Croatia, on and on . The big news is that we had a baby girl this year named Ana. Having kids helps put some perspective on life. My wife and I left DC a few weeks before the happenings on Sept 11 and fortunately none of our friends were directly affected by those tragic events. It has been surreal to be out of the states during this time and especially in a country where terrorism is the norm.
