Eric Eggen:

CLASS OF 1963
Simi valley, CA

Eric's Story

I have recently retired after a full career as a lawyer in Pensacola, Florida. For the past 20 years I have been a judicial hearing officer handling about 5000 child support cases a year. I was elected and served for eight years on the Escambia County School Board from 1984 to 1992. I was in the US Navy from 1969 to 1972, serving on submarines. I attended Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, for my freshman year, then transferred to Claremont Men's College, where I graduated with BA in economics in 1967. After a semester of graduate school in economics at Northwestern University, I joined the Navy, and served as a supply corps officer on submarines. Following my service, I attended and graduated from Emory University Law School, Atlanta, GA, in 1974. I had a general civil law practice in Pensacola from 1975 to 1995, when I became a full-time hearing officer. I wound up in the South because I married a University of Georgia co-ed, Julie, in 1970. We have three children: Jeff, who is a marketing executive for Ford living in Canton, Michigan; Michael, who i...Expand for more
s a doctoral candidate in cultural geography at the University of Wisconsin; and Daniel, who teaches middle school history and geography in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We have five grandchildren. My mother, age 91, lives in San Luis Obispo, California. My father, Donald T. Eggen, Ph.D., physics, died in February 2015 at age 93. My brother Norm (Class of '65) and my sister Joan (Class of '61) also have passed away. My brother Alan lives in Dearborn, Michigan. Julie and I currently live in a house on a ridge in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Hiawassee, Georgia, which is near the North Carolina border. My principal activities are reading, gardening and traveling. In 2014 we went to Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Tetons and Yellowstone national parks with the grandchildren. I also made a trip that year to the Black Hills of South Dakota. We also did a one-week work-mission at Red Bird Mission in Eastern Kentucky. In 2015 we took a cruise through the Panama Canal. We are going back to Red Bird Mission in September, 2015, for another week of Christian work.
