Eric's Story

Life For those of you not familiar with the military, I am sorry. The following is how our military Bio reads. It sure saved me a lot of typing. If there is anything you don't understand, I would be glad to break it down for you. Gris Born 03 January, 1969 in Quincy Mass. Graduated High School June 3, 1987. Four days later left for Boot Camp in San Diego CA. Graduated Boot Camp as a Pfc the end of August 1987. September 1987, reported to NAS Millington TN, for Basic Aviation Schooling and Basic Helicopter Course (BHC). Upon completion in November of 1987, reported for Intermediate Level Transmission and Rotors Class at Camp Pendleton CA. PFC Griswold was assigned to Helicopter and Maintenance Squadron (H&MS) -39 Camp Pendleton CA, to work as a Dynamic Helicopter Mechanic (MOS 6132) on UH-1N and AH-1 helicopters. During the winter of 1988 Lcpl Griswold deployed to Okinawa Japan for a six month deployment with HMLA-369 and helped bring the first AH-1W Cobra helicopters to the island. Upon his return, Lcpl Griswold went back to work at MALS-39, Camp Pendleton CA. In March of 1991, Cpl Griswold received orders to Presidential Helicopter Squadron HMX-1 at Quantico Virginia. During his four years at HMX-1 he became a T-64 engine mechanic, T-58 engine mechanic, Test Cell operator, UH1N Plane Captain, CH-53D Plane Captain and a CH-53D Crewchief. In May of 1995, he married Robin Giese of Stafford VA. October of that same year Sgt Griswold and Robin Received orders for Maintenance and Logistics Support Element Kaneohe (MALSEK) Hawaii. ht the engine test facility on line. Sgt Griswold was then assigned to Production Control where he coordinated all engines and components being processed through the intermediate level for repair. In February of 1999, SSgt Griswold was promoted to Warrant Officer and reported to The Basic School (TBS) at Quantico VA. After three weeks of training WO Griswold sustained a broken ankle during training. After Surgery, WO Griswold spent his recovery attending Aircraft Maintenance Officer School at Pensacola FL. Upon his completion in May of 1999, He reported to MALS-14 MCAS Cherry Point NC, and was assigned to Powerplants to serve as the division officer for one of the largest most diverse powerplants in the Marine Corps. After recovering from a Return to Flight Checklist and two red stripes, he resumed his TBS class in February of 2001. Upon his completion in May of 2001, he was assigned as the Maintenance Material Control Officer of the VMA-223 Bulldogs. It was with the Bulldogs, he deployed to Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom. Returning June 2003 from Iraq, Eric had his fourth ankle surgery and following recovery, move to Okinawa Japan. He is currently assigned as the Maintenance Control Officer for VMGR-152 Sumos, a C-130 aerial refueling and transport squadron. Gris thought he was going to retire in 2007 but the Marine Corps promoted him to Chief Warrant Officer 4 and sunk their hooks in for a few more years. His daughter,Bethany, was born in Hawaii on June 27, 1996. His parents Gordon and Elaine Griswold currently reside in Lebanon Oregon. His brother,Donald, after serving four years in the Marine Corps settled in Portland OR married Jackie Brown and has two daughters.
