Eric's Story
As a good person and family man is what I'd to be remembered for. My ultimate hero is Jesus Christ. as I am so imperfect but John3:16 made a wonderful fix to that. Some other heros include Ronald Reagan and Winston Churchill. I have lived many places due to my Dad being in USAF and being in it myself (from 75-79). Places lived include San Francisco, Dallas, Ft Worth, Shreveport, Biloxi, Rantoul IL, Abilene, Nacogdoches and San Antonio, plus Madrid and Sevilla Spain. I enjoy aviation and airshows. Also a senior member of the Civil Air Patrol and Hermann Sons plus the Assn of Naval Aviation and the Alamo Chapter, Air Force Assn and the SA Fiesta Commission. At SFASU, I lived in a dorm and was in Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. However, most close college friends that I still stay in touch with were in Campus Crusade for Christ. I enjoy teaching and entered the profession in my 50s. Teaching has certainly been a tool to teach me to give more of myself, as that hasn't come easily. Proud to have honorably served in the USAF and am A semi-retired aerospace worker and now a certified part time substitute teacher in several surrounding school districts. I don't think I'd have any surprises at next HS reunion. My biggest childhood memory was watching Navy blimps fly out of Moffett Field CA. That sparked my interest in aviation. My wife, Phyllis, and I had a 36th anniversary celebration of married life. Also two daughters and three grandkids. The biggest reward I received as an aviation writer was that I have had the once in a lifetime honor of flying with the US Navy Blue Angels F...Expand for more
light Demo team on Oct 29th, 2011 at Randolph AFB. This was in their Marine Corps C130T Fat Albert. That was a roller coaster ride on steroids! Comedian Billy Crystal wrote in his book "Still Foolin Them" that one of his greatest thrills was being a NY Yankee for a day, as they were his childhood team. That same thrill is what I feel for getting to fly with the Blues. Back in Aug 1977, I was able to fly in the back seat of an Illinois Air Guard F4C Phantom. We briefly went past Mach 1, the speed of sound while at 40,000 feet. Also got to "fly" in a very realistic F18 Hornet simulator at NAS Dallas. I've had aviation articles published in several publications. Phyllis and I have had the opportunity to visit several places recently, including Niagara Falls and Toronto. More info can be found at linkedin. Favorite activities include travel, airshows, photography, family time, reading (Brad Thor, Tom Clancey and History), listening to the radio (Classic Rock from the 60s and early 70s, Christian, Country, and talk radio the NY Times would not approve of: Michael Berry is great). Crank up that radio when Alice Cooper's "Schools Out" plays! Still so much of the US and Canada yet to be seen! To quote Joe Walsh, "Life's Been Good To Me, So Far!" Again, anything that has helped me become a better person is thanks to the work of the Good Lord and His Son, Jesus and the folks He has sent my way to teach me. I will never back down from supporting all segments of the US Constitution, especially the FIRST and SECOND amendments. Also now a proud member of the American Legion.
