Eric's Story

I went to several Elementary Schools, three in New Orleans alone (two of these were destroyed Hurricane Katrina. The other one was damaged but is open although the name changed since I went there. I went to Bienville Elementary for K and 1st Grade, then I went to Herbert C. Hoover Elementary in Council Bluffs, Iowa for 2nd and most of 3rd Grade and then back to Bienville for part of 3rd Grade and 4th and 5th Grades. I went to Edward Douglas White for part of 6th Grade. These two schools Katrina destroyed. For the last part of 6th Grade I went to and graduated from Étienne de Boré Elementary; he was the first mayor of News Orleans. In fact I went to ED White because Étienne de Boré was not open. It had opened, in January 1969. It was damaged by Katrina but is open and now called Einstein Academy . I do not know when they changed the name. I was in their first graduating class, 1969. I went to North Charleston Elementary for 7th Grade. This school went K-7, so I graduated from a second Elementary School. We then moved to Plymouth, Minnesota for 8th and 9th Grades, at then Plymouth Junior High . Then on to Neil A. Armstrong High School.. I went into the US Coast Guard for a couple of years. I was stationed back in Mobile, Alabama then Coast Station Santa Rosa, Pensacola, Florida. It is only about 70 miles east of Mobile. While at Armstrong I did well in English and French. I lived briefly in Manchester (Hartford) Connecticut and then onto Kansas City, Missouri (and Olathe, Kansas) and back to Kansas City, Missouri. I got the equivalent of an Associates of Applied Science in Electronics (Communications and Industrial Technology) in 1978, back in Kansas City, Missouri. I then moved to Houston, Texas, because I got offered a job with Texas Instruments. I was 21 but almost 22 years old. I have been in Texas ever since. While there I attended Houston Community Colleg...Expand for more
e and got an Associate’s of Science in Mathematics. I briefly attended the University of Houston, transferred to Texas Instruments in Austin. I now live in Round Rock, Texas and have since 1992. I graduated from St. Edward’s University in December, 1996, a part of the then largest December graduating class in that school’s history. I got a Bachelor’s of Liberal Studies in Computer Information Science. I ‘attended’ University of Phoenix (Online) and graduated with a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems, in July of 2000. I recently went to Austin Community College to get some knowledge of ERSI’s ArcMap software to try to become an GIS Analyst. GIS means Geographical Information Systems. I was an Electronics Technician for 25 years with mostly Texas Instruments and a Test Engineer for about 1½ years. The Test Engineer job laid me off in May of 2002 and I have worked only 2 years out the past 13 years, and none of it at the engineer level. So I have the equivalent of nearly 300 Semester hours of college (10 years at 30 Semester Hours per year). Nearly all of this prior to being laid off. I have spent slightly more than a ¼ of a Century in the technology field. I have spent most of the past 10 years researching education and the use of technology in education. I am NOT an educator but a student in every decade since the 1960s, so I have seen a lot changes. I am an educatee (to possibly coin a new word). I feel that these facts make me qualified to write about education and technology. I have published 4 e-books and one more is now pending. Growing up all over this country is somewhat unique, outside of the military. So, I have been exposed to different cultures within the US. I have studied many fields in college, including philosophy/ethics (moral philosophy), as well as general business and a few other fields. I am married with an adult daughter.
