Eric's Story
Memories of Mason School:
Hated the stone playground; loved the swings, the jungle gym, large sewer pipes, see saw and cement block fort. Overall loved the playground.
On the swings we used to see who could jump off the farthest.
Discovered that match heads in CO2 cartridges made a good rocket. I remember one of our gang tried to shoot one from the sewer pipes that didn't make it over the building and broke our classroom window. I was sure I'd be called to the office, but someone squealed on him.
Spent many hours on the ball field on the other side toward Mack Ave. Liked to climb up this odd tree along the 1st baseline and sit up there and watch the men play.
I remember being on Safety Patrol and one very cold January morning the principal (a lady (name?)) served us Hot Chocolate. I thought it was the greatest thing!!! Also a wonderful field trip to Lansing where I got to shake the Governor's (G M Williams) hand.

Memorable Teachers: Miss Mary (K), Miss Rose (3&4th Gr), Mr O'Conner (5th Gr) I heard he was later Principal of GP HS?).
Parents retired to Venice FL 1958, so 8th grade (Parcells) was my last year in GP Woods.
Memories of Venice HS:
I had a great time there and was able to be in a lot of activities: 4 sports, student council, clubs. Best memory was that I was accepted very quickly by all these kids who had grown up there. Many other good memories....
Worst memories: Breaking Up. #2 When Ray Perry cross wired my VW's spark plugs and it coughed and sputtered all the way home. I thought my Dad was going to kill me.
Went on to Princeton U(BSEE) and worked for IBM in Trenton,NJ;Miami,FL & Rochester,MN for 28 years. Owned a Mom & Pop resort in Ely, MN '96-2003. 4 kids and 9 grandkids, 1 Great Grandchild, now retired in Venice, FL with Sharon wife of 52 yrs.
