Memories of Mason School: Hated the stone playground; loved the swings, the jungle gym, large sewer pipes, see saw and cement block fort. Overall loved the playground. On the swings we used to see who could jump off the farthest. Discovered that match heads in CO2 cartridges made a good rocket. I remember one of our gang tried to shoot one from the sewer pipes that didn't make it over the building and broke our classroom window. I was sure I'd be called to the office, but someone squealed on him. Spent many hours on the ball field on the other side toward Mack Ave. Liked to climb up this odd tree along the 1st baseline and sit up there and watch the men play. I remember being on Safety Patrol and one very cold January morning the principal (a lady (name?)) served us Hot Chocolate. I thought it was the greatest thing!!! Also a wonderful field trip to Lansing where I got to shake the Governor's (G M Williams) hand. ...Expand for more
