Eric's Story
Military
I think my Life and Military Bio are one in the same. For anyone who reads this knew how I was in school, a part of me that I don't really care to reflect on or dig up.
Well, since I left Thomson I've been lucky enough to have had many opportunities to see the world. So here it goes.
Jan 91- Jul 95
Seymour Johnson AFB Goldsboro, NC
My first assignment, wow what a shock, no more Mom or Dad, I was on my own. I learned to adapt quickly. In 93' I was sent to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield (3 long hot months). I also managed to meet (and leave) my ex-wife there...yippie.
Jul 95-Oct 96
Lajes Field Azores, Portagul
I was transferred to the Azores in for 15 incredible months. What a great place to be, I considered it the Hawaii of the Atlantic!! I will be trying to get re-assigned there in a couple of years to finish off my 20.
Oct 96-Feb 98
F.E. Warren AFB Cheyenne, Wy
Ride Em' Cowboy!! Belt buckles, cowboy hats and cowgirls in tight wranglers! What a place. The base was a Titan missile base, very laid back. It was a great assignment in regards to it's mission, location, Denver being only 2hrs away and local community.
Feb 98-Jan 02
Davis Monthan AFB Tucson, AZ
Unfortunatly I spent only 14 months in Cheyenne due to civilian contractors taking over our job there...damn civies!! Although once I got to Tucson, I quickly forgot about Cheyenne. Here is where ...Expand for more
I really got to travel the world. From here I visited Germany, Italy, Greece, Japan, Spain, Austria, Hawaii and England. I was deployed as part of the war in Kosovo in 99', and also did another 3 month tour in Saudi Arabia in 01'. I was glad to leave Tucson however (not a hot weather person, regardless of how dry it is), but I don't regret my time there.
Jan 02-Jan 03
Camp Humphries, Republic of Korea
I knew sooner or later I would be tagged for Korea, however, I did so at my choosing. Korea was an interesting place to be, so many people didn't really like us much over there, but none the less, what a cultural experience. And for those wondering, dog isn't on every menu over there (not that I could read the menu's).
Jan 03- Present
Eielson AFB, Alaska
The base here is so-so, not the best one I have been assigned to. Alaska, however, is a great place to be! It is an awesome experience up here, the wife and I plan on moving back here after I retire. However we plan to live in/near Anchorage instead of Fairbanks. Our plan is to leave here in late 05' or early 06'. From here we want to go to the Azores.
Over all I am happy with my Air Force career, the path it has taken, the places I have seen and the thousands of people I have met. If someone were to ask me if I had it all to do over again would I still join the Air Force? I would have to calmly reply...HELL YEAH!!!
