Eric's Story
Life
It has been an interesting journey, and I have learned to stay attentive to the details that will eventually mean so much. Not that I've grown wise or satisfied, but I HAVE learned to listen to women (and understand what they are saying), always be early for appointments, rely on no one to do the right thing besides myself, and to always get the kind of ice cream that I want! Add to that list things like regular service for the great cars I enjoy, travel constantly to the best destinations, and to not hesitate in making the first efforts as I translate vision into reality. Did the prestigious college thing, spent time as an Army Ranger, rose quickly in the corporate world, and cherish memories of a marraige that was only five or so years long. Working on a few projects that will provide for me very well for the rest of my life currently, and can enjoy the finer and fewer things already. One of those precious enjoyments is the people I am surrounded by: family, friends, employees, clients, and even those ignorant fools who should have never gotten a driver's license! I seem to always have the time to share with others, and to celebrate each minute as if it is the most important thing. I believe it really is, you know. I have already had some close ones pass thru life, and it helps me to remember what is really important after all. (geez, this sounds too much like Dr. Phil!) I am looking forward to touching base with my school friends and catching up on how we invested our potential!
College
Interestingly enough, a teacher from Skyline High School in Oakland got me to volunteer the extra time I had to tutor my fellows in both the remedial classes and the classes for students with special needs. It wasn't long before I found my calling, for teaching was definitely my "gift" and was one thing that truly made me happy. So, to take advantage of...Expand for more
the superior programs offered in education at select institutions, I carefully aligned my personal beliefs and standards and found them appropriately pointing to the most prestigious Christian liberal arts college at that time, which was Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois. An added bonus was the Divinity School next door, where I regularly audited classes and participated in activities. I remember the many, many wonderful concerts and plays, the conferences that were attended by world figures, and having a part in saving schools from being closed in the community surrounding Trinity. I enjoyed working as part of a 4-person team on The Digest (the school paper), and filling in as a photographer for the yearbook. Everybody will probably remember me best as one of the most ardent fans for the teams, but that was more likley due to my required attendance as the one responsible for the gym and PhysEd buildings (I had a job on campus as primary set up/take down and maintenence). I'll never forget the laughter at every movie night, and the popcorn fights that were so fun but took so long to clean up after! I will always hold dear the special things that were only Trinity: St. Lucie festival, SMFM activites, Leadership Lecture Series, Prayer Vigils, and just hanging out downstairs and having a pizza with the gang. "MaryAlice Felfie, put down that Digest and eat!" (inside joke: she was editor of The Digest). It wasn't long before I met Gloria Almen, and after some time, were were engaged and looking forward to graduating together and beginning our new life. Alas, that relationship did not stand the test of time (how fleeting was that?), and I eventually made my way back to California, and put my now polished skills in retail management to work, first with JC Penney as a Dist. Manager, then assumed the family business. Life got interesting after that!
