Eric's Story
All,
It has been a very long time since we walked the halls at BC, ran to lockers, tried to make it to classes that we didn't want to attend at all on time, frequented Ed's Drive Thru and met at the spot at the river that has now been absorbed by the zoo...
Many of you who knew me would certainly have voted me most likely "not" to succeed. Heaven knows I was a bit of a "problem child", often zigging when I should have zagged. But sometimes, things just work out...
There have been a number of great things that have happened in my life. I hope it is the same for each of you.
Somehow the guy that struggled to get through high school got a bachelors degree, an MBA and a Ph.D. Yes, believe it or not, I am "Dr. Eric" now. I understand. I don't believe it either... ;-)
I am a business consultant to many of the Fortune 100/500 including IBM, Wachovia Bank, Progress Energy, The Hartford, DirecTV and a host of others on business strategy, process improvement, information technology strategy and change management. I lived in Europe for 5 years, have traveled the globe and met a lot of interesting (and not so interesting) people. I am a published author, a poet, a college professor and a regular speaker (those who know me won't be surprised that I invite situations where people HAVE TO sit and listen to me talk......Expand for more
.). I have been married for thirty years (sounds like congratulations are in order except it has been to three different women and alas... single again) and have three great kids. As an entrepreneur I've had the opportunity to build 3 companies from scratch and help 4 others turn things around. I've received a lot of awards that I probably didn't deserve, and somehow have garnered the respect of a lot of smart people... (I have them all fooled...) ;-)
My time at BC, while it could have been more productive, was for the most part a lot of fun. You may remember me "palling around" with my friend Rusty Cooke, who was also the lead guitarist for our little band. Rusty died this year (2011) and my brother Tony and I attended the funeral. He stayed true to his passion for music and art throughout his life, and I was fortunate to have his friendship in my youth.
While at BC, I had the chance to have other good friends and the company of many beautiful and smart women. Times at the lake and quck kisses between classes will never be forgotten... Trust me. (and yes, I AM talking about YOU... and you know who you are...).
Yes, a lot has changed in the last 40 (40?) years. Some good, some not so good. Somehow, my life turned out GREAT in spite of me...
Hope your life is GREAT too...
All the best,
Dr. Eric Threatt
