Erika's Story
Life
I work in the meetings & convention industry and have been with the same company since graduating from USC in 1996. I'm a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and I live in Pasadena.
I love NASCAR, traveling and organizing things. I go the the NASCAR races at the California Speedway and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I have traveled to Hawaii several times (Oahu and The Big Island) as well as to St. Lucia in the southern Caribbean. My dream vacation is the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
School
I had a blast in high school. I studied hard and got good grades, did lots of activities, had a lot of friends and did my fair share of partying. Overall, high school was a great experience and I feel lucky to have enjoyed my time because there are so many who didn't.
College
USC was an awesome place to go to school. I transferred as a Junior from Cal State San Bernardino, so I wish I would have gone there longer (although, my student loan bill would be way worse that it is now). I wish I would have made more long-lasting friendships and that I would have participated in more activities...Expand for more
. I had some really great times at football games both on the field and in the stands. I made 2 very good friends there that I am proud to say are still my friends today.
Workplace
My job is hard to describe. I usually tell people I plan special events, but that is only one component of my job. My company is one of the best convention shuttle management companies in the country. We basically run buses between hotels and convention centers all over the country. I do sales and operations, which means that I cold call, write proposals, follow up and close new business as well as confirm the logistical details and provide on-site management during the programs. I get to travel around the US (and recently Toronto), which is cool, but when we are on-site we work 14-18 hours a day...sometimes more, depending on the size and scale of the event. I've planned some fun parties too...I did an event for 3,000 people at Paramount Studios with various kinds of live entertainment all over the NY Street backlot, a cool tent event for A&E Television, and an out-of-this-world event at a winery in Santa Ynez.
