Richard's Story

I think I'm retired now. I AM retired from USAF as an Aircraft Maintenance Management Analyst and from Department of Army as a Program Analyst. I'm also retired from the Boeing Company. At RAF Mildenhall, England from 1966 to 1969 I was in POL. That's P O L ! Returned to Mildenhall from 1987 to 1991 and worked at Third Air Force Headquarters as an Aircraft Maintenance Management Analyst. Presently I work at Ft Knox, KY for the US Army Human Resources Center of Excellence as a Program Analyst. I live in Elizabethtown, KY and really like it. I only hope old friends remember me as a good friend and a good worker and a mediocre pinochle player. We pumped a lot of fuel on a lot of airplanes when I was in England back in the sixties. We drank a lot of beer and laughed a hell of a lot. I spent a wild and crazy year 500 miles up the Mekong River once with a bunch of other Yankee Air Pirates. The USAF called the place NKP - we called it Naked Fanny. I served with Uncle Sam's Air Force in Texas, England, Illinois, Washington state, Thailand, Germany, Arizona, California, New York, Okinawa-Japan, New Jersey, England again and New Mexico. After I retired from the USAF, just so I wouldn't forget what jet fuel smelled like after you set it on fire I took a job with the Boeing Company (nee McDonnell Douglas) in Saudi Arabia working with the Royal Saudi Air Force. I took my wife over there and it proved she ...Expand for more
loves me. I worked for the State of New Mexico as a program manager for a while but returned to the Federal Governemnt. I've been all over hell and the bad half of Texas and places I don't even remember why. I liked nearly all of them and didn't like Saudi Arabia at all - but I learned to make whiskey while I was there and will be eternally grateful to a guy from Cairo, Georgia for that. I got kicked out of Germany once for having too much fun at the Octoberfest, but that was a case of mistaken identity - had to pay a hundred marks for a phone booth anyway. Let me tell you about this one weekend in Amsterdam - well maybe I better not. Somehow I managed to graduate from California State University in San Bernardino when nobody was looking. I also graduated from the Community College of the Air Force, San Bernardino Valley College and the University of Maryland College in a similarly accidental way. I've never been in prison and don't intend to be and I still believe in the almighty power of the Dodgers. I've read more books than I can possibly count but my wife can't understand why I can't remember where she puts my underwear. My goal after I retire from the Dept of the Army is to get a job as a teacher's aid. Kind of like a redemption for my soul because of the way I mistreated the education system as a teenager. I don't know what else to say except life's not boring unless you want it to be.
