Ernest Pennington:

CLASS OF 1965
Kansas city, KS

Ernest's Story

Some years ago, I had added a brief history to my profile, describing major events in my life after having left Rosedale about two months prior to graduation in 1965. I was sent down to finish out my senior year with my step father's parents in Louisiana. Since I started my senior year at Pettus Senior High in Pettus, Texas, that meant I had attended 3 different schools my senior year. I recently created a new account on Classmates because I could not access my old account. Long story made shorter, they removed my old account and my profile, when all I asked was if Classmates could combine the two . . . . We're all in our 70s now, no more fresh-faced 18 year olds. Hopefully, some of you may actually remember me and to you, I wanted to update my profile. If you want to email me, please reach out as I've love to hear from you. epennington at woh.rr. com. After graduation, I went into the Navy and spent 2 1/2 years in school to become a nuclear reactor operator. Long story but after completing the program, I was put on a rocket ship in Vietnam since there were no surface ship nuclear operator positions. I couldn't go on submarines because I am claustrophobic-- no yelling and screaming like in the movies, my body would simply shut down. After the Navy, I went to work for the FBI in Washington, DC as a finger print technician. After that I was a police officer with the Prince Georges County Maryland PD for 5 years. I then left the PD to attend the University of Maryland, then went to Ft. Worth, Texas for grad school. I then worked at Texaco Research Laboratories in Port Arthur, Texas for a couple of years. I left there in 1984 and took a position with E-Systems, as the Chief Pilot and Systems Engineer for their UAV/RPV/Drone programs in Falls Church, VA. I went back to school to work on a Masters of Engineering, with emphasis on Aeronautical engineer. Another long story but I eventually was transferred into the U-2 Program, where I became the Chief Engi...Expand for more
neer, responsible for integrating all the special mission equipment onto the aircraft. I spent a lot of time at the Lockheed Skunk Works in Burbank, CA and at Palmdale, CA. That led to being transferred to Texas, where I assumed a similar position to support a program to develop a similar aircraft for the German Luftwaffe. My family and I spent about 4 1/2 years in Germany, where the aircraft was being built. That led to follow-on positions with Mooney Aircraft in Kerrville, TX; Raytheon Aircraft (now Cessna Beechcraft) in Wichita, Kansas; Lockheed Martin in Goodyear, AZ, and I finished up my career by being a SETA employee of the Air Force's Special Projects Office in Dayton, OH. My wife and I recently retired to Sun City West, AZ in April 2019. I’m surprised I actually retired. I love working and always thought I’d die at my desk, then call that retirement . . . . but, at 71, I thought maybe I should retire and do what I wanted, for a change. COVID has totally loused up our introduction to retirement. We're actually considering returning to Dayton, OH, where we have a daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, as well as many friends and family from my wife's side. The real attraction and magnet is our granddaughter, who was born in January. We’ll see. If you would like to reach out to me, please do. I would like to hear from you. Use my address that I sneaked into my profile. You'll need to make an obvious change for it to work. Classmates wouldn't allow me to include, even though I've had it for 20+ years. I do have a main address that is not used in public forums. I also am thinking of not renewing my account because I get daily SPAM and garbage from Classmates. I'm not sure that anyone actually uses this website all that much. Most use Facebook but I have never had any social media accounts due to my line of work over the past 40 years. That's why I came back to Classmates. So, if you'd like to contact me, let me hear from you. Best to all.
