Erville's Story
I joined the Navy in September 74. After boot, I went to A School in Memphis TN. Then received orders to NAS Moffett Field, Ca assigned to Patrol Squadron 48 (VP48), working on the P3 Orion anti submarine aircraft. Got out in September 79. Spent seven months holding down a couple of jobs. Got laid off Easter weekend 80. Rejoined the Navy two weeks later. Got orders to a squadron aboard the
USS Constallation in the Indian Ocean. I was an aircraft mechanic on the A6 Intruder with Attack Squadron 165 the"Boomers".
I spent 12 years in and out of Whidbey Island, doing full and partial cruises on 5 other carriers. America,with VA 95 "Green Lizards", Kitty Hawk, also with VA 95. Enterprise, ships company damage control, Kitty Hawk, VAQ 130 "Zappers",(EA6B P...Expand for more
rowlers this time), JFK also with VAQ 130 and Lincoln, with VAQ 135 "Black Ravens". Did two shore assignments at Whidbey with VA 128, the RAG (Replacement Air Group) and NAF El Centro with MAWD (Medium Attack Weapons Detachment. Retired in 95. Spent time as a civilian worker around Corning holding down a couple of jobs. Finally got a job at MCAS Yuma, Az (civil service) in 04, as a Marine Corps civilian, material handler, forklift diver, box kicker and general pain in the a## (according to some).
Finally retired from federal government 31 May 2022 with 38 years of service.
Currently not doing much but traveling, working around the house, and collecting my retirement, annuity, SS, and disability - physical, not mental (in case you were wondering).
