Life I bet that I am the only one in the Shortridge class of 1972 that is a heart transplant recipient. I was put on the transplant list on June 9, 2004, and received a new heart on June 10, 2004. No, it was not planned that way; it just worked out that way. Talk about miracles and second chances...absolutely amazing! I remember my paternal grandmother talking about praying that she would live long enough to see her children grown. She got more than that. She saw all of her grandchildren grown; I am the eldest. All my children are grown, married, gone, and have children (I have seven grandchildren). So, I am blessed. Debbie and I have been married for three years. She has four children (one at home) and five grandchildren. I remember Orientation Day at Shortridge, and I remember the last time I set foot in the school, too. I just wanted to soak up some memories during a time I was home from college. There was no red carpet waiting, only a reception from Mr. Benjamin Johnson that intimated that "your time is done here; time to move on." My favo...Expand for more
