Life
I bet that I am the only one in the Shortridge class of 1972 that is a heart transplant recipient. I was put on the transplant list on June 9, 2004, and received a new heart on June 10, 2004. No, it was not planned that way; it just worked out that way. Talk about miracles and second chances...absolutely amazing!
I remember my paternal grandmother talking about praying that she would live long enough to see her children grown. She got more than that. She saw all of her grandchildren grown; I am the eldest. All my children are grown, married, gone, and have children (I have seven grandchildren). So, I am blessed.
Debbie and I have been married for three years. She has four children (one at home) and five grandchildren.
I remember Orientation Day at Shortridge, and I remember the last time I set foot in the school, too.
I just wanted to soak up some memories during a time I was home from college. There was no red carpet waiting, only a reception from Mr. Benjamin Johnson that intimated that "your time is done here; time to move on."

rite teachers were Mr. Wilson, the industrial arts teacher, and Mrs. Shumacher. Walter Cain marked in her record book with a pen and made her cry; we all laughed. She mourned over a dog that died and missed a couple of days of school. I did not understand, but I do now. Mr. Laurence Leggett, the orchestra teacher, told me that I would either be a preacher or a politician. I was in college at the time; funny, sure seemed like he had a crystal ball. I have always been thankful for his interest in me since I met him at PS 56.
"Story Ideas" suggests writing something surprising... I don't know, but Scott Adair and I were in the same class in grade school, high school, and college. That might hold true with Jimmy Ellis, but if he was at PS 110 I did not know him, then.
I have great memories from my years at Shortridge; met some really great people. Some have left us, and I miss them much. Though I have not been in touch with most of you over the years, I have carried you in my hearts (smile) every step of the way. God's blessings upon each of you and yours.
