Erwin's Story

Life Well, I grew up in Millwoods. After high school I attended U of A and received my B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. I worked for a couple of years for a local engineering firm in Edmonton before relocating to Calgary in 2000. Been here ever since and enjoying it. I'm now working in the booming Oilsands industry and living well financially. I'm having fun here. I still visit Edmonton about once a month to visit family and friends and go to the odd Oilers game. GO OILERS GO!! I hate the Flames, even though I live in Calgary. And yes I did cheer for Tampa Bay in 2004, hah hah!! School I think I had so many crushes in high school and university I lost track of them all. Suffice it to say back then, my hormones were out of control, LOL!! I must say I didn't realize how hard life became after high school. In hindsight, those days were a breeze compared to my life now. Don't get me wrong. I'm still enjoying myself and I definitely wouldn't trade my career for anything, but the high salary certainly comes with its own pressures and stresses. I had fun at Trinity. I still remember the many friends I had back in the day. It's unfortunate that through the years, I drifted apart from those friends. Hopefully I can reunite with some of them here. It must be the engineer in me but I have to say that my favorite teacher at Trinity would probably be Mr. Patsula in Math 30. I thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style and he was quite the comic for a math teacher. College University was 1000 times harder than high school. Man did I ever struggle in my first year and it really put things in perspective. High school was so easy and I had the grades to show for it, but my first y...Expand for more
ear was a forgettable one. Things improved in the later years and I ended up doing decently in my final 2 years. University life is full of fond memories and I experienced a lot of "firsts" in my life. I learned a lot about myself in University and what I can and cannot do. Being a poor student, I learned to stretch my income as far as I could. A valuable lesson indeed and I know how to manage my finances well now because of it. I pretty much hung out in the Chem E building and I was heavily involved with extra-curricular activities, engineering student body VP, etc. The best times were during Engineering Week (probably due to the beer). I met some pretty good friends that I still keep in touch with today. For all you single guys out there, the hottest women in university were those in fine arts or political science programs. There was nothing in engineering, hah hah!! Again, I had a terrific time in university. It was hard at first but I adjusted. I will never forget my time there. The education I received there has helped me to get where I am today. Workplace I've had a variety of jobs ever since I started the employment world at the young age of 14. From flipping burgers and making pizza, to working at a golf course and onto my engineering career, my list of jobs spans a broad spectrum of fields. The last several years have truly been the most rewarding, both financially and career wise. Alberta is the Oil and Gas capital of N. America and I am proud to be involved in it. I'm currently working as a project lead engineer for the Horizon Oilsands project. It's been a fruitful 6 years on this project and I hope to continue working on this for several more years.
