Estelle's Story
After college I left New Jersey and moved around a bit, living in Minneapolis, New Orleans and finally settling in Southern California, where I worked for 15 years as a public relations director for a hospital. As a hobby, I acted in community theater for many years, winning a number of acting awards. Met and married my current husband, Don -- also a transplanted easterner -- out here in California, and we spent our honeymoon in Africa, visiting game reserves in Kenya, and climbing the Virungas in Rwanda to see the mountain gorillas! As avid photographers and lovers of wildlife, we both fell in love with Africa, and during the ensuing 20 years we returned many times, visiting nine different countries. August -- Don's 15th trip there and my 12th. Last year Don -- a writer by profession -- published an award-winning coffee table book featuring the best of his wildlife photos and a beautiful memoir of our travels, entitled "Endangered Liaisons." It's available on Amazon for anyone who's interested. I'm very proud of his accomplishment.
Don is also the publisher of "Cinefex," a magazine on movie special effects, which he founded back in 1980. I joined the staff as an editor back in 1993. We have a worldwide subscription base, and are well-read within the effects community and among visual effects afficionadoes. We have one son (my step-son, actually), and last year we welcomed our first grandchild into the family. Would love to hear from old friends at HPHS.
