Eugene's Story
Life
After 67 years of living and working on the East coast (NJ and NY states), we have just moved to Canal Winchester, OH. My youngest daughter has adopted a Guatamalan baby boy and we now have our second grandchild who arrived early March, 2006. My daughter got pregnant after adopting little Peter. After graduating Teaneck High in 1956 I spent 4 years in the Air Force, most of which was at Loring AFB, Limestone, Maine. I was employed with Prudential Insurance as an active agent for almost 33 years, retiring in 1996. I continued to work part time for Prudential until my complete retirement October,2005. My wife, Helen (McKean class of 1958) retired from her position as college nurse at Herkimer Cty Community College, Herkimer, NY, at the end of January, 2005. We have 3 daughters and soon will have two grandchildren. I enjoy working with computers and was president of the Mohawk Valley IBM Computer Club for twenty years. M Club site and reading the quarterly newsletters. The president's article is the first one in each of the newsletters. I enjoy communicating with several former high school classmembers including Bruce Boteler, Dave Downing, Don Morgan, Elaine (Ackerman) and Don Stephani.
Military
Upon graduating THS, I spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1956-1960 mostly as a B52 ground crew member. Our squadron was one of the first to be put on alert duty during the "Cold war" when tensions with Russia were high. We were loaded on an air transport bound for Turkey in 1958 when situations in Lebanon flared up but the order was cancelled before we took off. I met Al Novak on the flightline at Loring AFB one day. It was evidence to me how small the world can be. He was in Field Maintenance. Who would ever expect to meet a former high school classmate in the Air Force up in Maine? I could have gone on to Officers Candidate school but my discharge came up first so I opted to get out and return to civilian life.
