Eugenia's Story
Life
I graduated from Winthrop with a Bachelor's in History. I got a paralegal degree from Greenville Tech. While at Tech I was elected Governor of the SC State Student Legislature. It was while serving in this capacity that I met Lee Atwater and Carroll Campbell. I worked for Campbell in his state senate campaign. I worked in a law office for about a year until Campbell decided to run for Congress. I worked on the campaign and then came to DC as part of the Congressional staff, working as a legislative assistant. When Campbell became Governor, I became the Legislative Director of the State of South Carolina Washington office, serving as the Governor's representative to the National Govenor's Association and the Federal Government. This position afforded me the opportunity to travel all over the country and meet individuals ranging from Steven Speilbeg to Helmut Kohl. nsurers trade association as a Legislative Associate. While there I spearheaded the design of a web-based legislative tracking system and taught courses for the staff in content managment and writing for the web. I am now at the Department of Agriculture in the Rural Development section serving as a Legislative Specialist. I have redesigned the RD intranet site and created a database for tracking our legislative interests. I serve as a liasion between Rural Development and Congress and not only prepare the Administrators and Undersecretary for their appearances on Capitol Hill, but meet also meet with Members of Congress. During my entire time in DC I have lived within walking distance of the US Capitol. It makes interesting times, expecially when a security alert is called. I have learned not to let the sounds of F-16s flying over disturb my sleep. In 2004, I fulfilled a long time dream when I met Phil Collins at a private show taping at XM Radio.
