Eunice's Story

My Story I graduated from Fairhope High School in ’66. Following graduation, I left to attend college and nursing school in Chattanooga Tennessee (Covenant College and Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing) and graduated from their diploma program in ’71. I returned to live in Mobile for a few years and enjoyed working at the, then, Mobile General Hospital and also a year with the Red Cross Mobile blood team. During that time, with most of my male friends, colleagues and relatives being drafted, I decided to support the military as well. In 1973, I joined the Alabama National Guard as a 2Nd Lieutenant, attached to the HHD 161st MED BN, Mobile AL in the role of a Medical Surgical Nurse. Pursuing my nursing career, in 1977 I moved to Bethesda, MD to work at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (National Research Center). Through my time at the NIH, I was able to complete both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing...Expand for more
(BSN) and then a Master of Science in Nursing Administration (MSN). During that time, I transferred to the Maryland National Guard, then to the Army Reserves, retiring after 25 years as a Lieutenant Colonel. I married my husband, Dwight Wagner in 1984. His support, both academic and military experience, has been invaluable to my development in both civilian and military careers. After completing my MSN, we began a process of adoption which resulted in gaining our daughter Seyda and son Moses from Honduras, Central America. They are now both in their late 20’s and we now have two granddaughters (Jerrica & Laila) by our daughter. After our retirements we moved to a retirement community outside of Chambersburg, PA. Wanting to keep an active license, I have refocused my skills and experience to consult and participate in local community and school nursing. We enjoy traveling and enjoying local social and learning networks.
