Eva's Story
Life
After my first two years of college I worked for the Illinois Tollway on the road crew and then for the Illinois Dept. of Motor Vehicles. I met James Gilliam and got married in March of 1989. In April of 1989 we moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for three years at the Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station. I finished earning my B.S. in Business while there. We were moved to Groton, CT to the Naval Sub base in 1992. I worked for the Department of Defense on the Trident Submarine Project. James was discharged after five years of military service for a disability (he became diabetic). We moved to Pleasant Grove, AL in 1993 where I began working at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1994 I had my son, Andrew. I divorced in 2002 but stayed in Pleasant Grove so that my son would have the benefit of both parents involvement in his life. I am now the Research Administrator for the Department of Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The nice thing about living in Alabama is that your about 4-6 hours away from everything. Four hours from Gulf Shores (the Gulf of Mexico), six hours from Gatlinburg (Smokey Mts.), three hours from New Orleans, nine hours from Disney World, to name a few. I started school again in August 2005. It's alot of work but I want a Master's. I'm taking Spanish 101. It's great. I can actually communicate in Spanish, at least well enough to get what I want. I try to have fun on the weekends and for the most part life is simple. Just the way I like it.
