Evelyn's Story

Life I've been married to Wayne Foster for the entire 50 years since graduation; we have a daughter,48 and a son, 42, and 6 grandchildren from 7 years to 25 years. I've been very blessed through the years with some times good and some not so good, but through it all, I've grown! I was with Thomas & Betts Corp. for 33 years and retired on April 1, 2005. Most recently, Wayne was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Thankfully, his was caught early, so his prognosis is very encouraging. 2007 has pretty much been filled up with doctor appointments, surgeries, followups, and chemo. We're almost halfway through the chemo now, and in December we hope to learn how effective it was. We have been traveling to Boston for doctor visits, but having chemo in Atlanta. At this point, everything looks good. God is good!! Update: Follow-up to Wayne's cancer - he had some of it return, so he's undergoing chemotherapy for the 2nd time. He's very weak and dealing with a lot of obstacles, but I know Who is in control and pray every day that he'll be healed. We are very blessed in a lot of ways, and I don't think this will be any different. As an addendum to the above, my beloved life partner went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2008, after an 18-month battle with Mesothelioma. He was exposed both in the Navy and also from the friction (brake) products he was around most of the time he worked in an automotive environment, both actually doing the brake jobs on vehicles, and as a manager in the shop where the work was being done. He is now in a better place, and out of his suffering, but I will truly miss him! I continue to be very active in church, garden club, antiques, reading, camping, movies, plays, and socializing with family and friends. Truly enjoyed the 50th Reunion! We're holding up well, but miss those who have gone on before us!! Update 1/16/2016: I now have a precious great-grandson who's a year old, and a little brother or sister to arrive in July, 2016. Another great-grandson, born just one month after this one, was still-born and is in Heaven with his PaPaw. He was born with the cord wrapped around his neck, after a 37-1/2 week normal pregnancy. A devastating year, but after many tests, my granddaughter has determined that a clotting disorder that she has might...Expand for more
have caused his death. There were 2 tiny blood clots in his umbilical cord! I pray that she will eventually have a healthy baby, as she wants one so badly! My own health continues to be good, and I'm still enjoying all the things I mentioned above! Update - 7-14-2018 As you know, life changes, and I now have 4 great grandchildren, plus the one in Heaven, and another on the way, due in February! My granddaughter who had the stillborn now has a beautiful 6-month-old who is her Rainbow Baby and a very precious girl! God has blessed me with healthy great-grandchildren and I'm thankful that they're having them while I still know how to handle them! LOL! I stay active with church, garden club and family, and pack shoe boxes year-round for Operation Christmas Child. I've packed 150 so far this year. I'm so sad that so many of our classmates are either passed on or "missing". I look forward to September when I hope to see many of you. I'm afraid the name tags are essential, because none of us look like we once did! I have a 5th Wheel Camper in the north Georgia mountains, and enjoy spending time there as much as possible. 12/20/2021 I now have 9 precious great grandchildren counting the one in Heaven. I am very blessed. I'm still packing Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes year-round and loving doing it. My health continues to be good. It was sad to see how many of our classmates have passed on as was shown in a poster at our 60th Reunion luncheon at 57th Fighter Group Restaurant recently. Hope more can be there next year! Sadly, the September all-class reunion had to be cancelled again. This time it was due to lack of people signing up. Hope we all stay well for a long long time! Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year to all! Update 5/19_2023 My family continues to grow, now with 9 great grandchildren and a 10th due on June 1. My youngest grandchild is 19, and a 4th is getting married this year. Still healthy and busy, although I crossed the "Big 8-0" as many of you did. I always hate to hear when another classmate passes. 1961 seems like yesterday!! I would love to go to the Bass Open House in June, but it's in the evening & driving home to Ball Ground from Little Five Points is not what I want to do. Hope everyone stays well. I'm thankful for the ones I'm able to stay in touch with on FB!
