F. Scott's Story

Life My life began with a blessing as I was adopted into a loving and caring family (at 7 days old), and brought up as a Military (Army) Brat, and like so many other brats I never was able to set down roots in any one location, due to the family constantly moving to where my father was assigned by the military. One of the perks of my father being an officer was that he was able to take his family to almost every assignment location in country(USA) and out of the country(Overseas). It was fun and adventuresome, we (family) were able to see a lot of things that others never did, but obviously we missed out on relationship type things that others that never move experienced. You learn to make friends quickly when you move a lot, but the early entrenched relationships that others developed who did not move as much as we did were very much causality to our way of life. Born in Oklahoma, & adopted when 7 days old. (3 other children were also adopted into our family of 7 siblings) Moved to Germany, lived there 3 years. Returned to USA and lived in Oregon (Salem) for 1 year. Next stop was Northern California (Chester / Lake Almanor) Next Daily City, Ca Next Presidio of San Francisco, Ca Next Seattle, WA Next Tokyo, Japan (Washington Heights) attended Yoyogi Elementary School Next Olympia, WA Next Ft. Lewis, WA attended DuPont Middle School Next Thompson Place, Lacy, WA Next Chester, Ca Next Cahokia, Ill (St. Louis area) attended Cahokia High School Next New Brunswick, NJ attended New Brunswick High School Next Lexington, KY attended Lafayette High School Next El Paso, TX 1964 - 1966 Irvin High School, El Paso, TX – Graduated, and joined Army in the summer of 1966… Joined Army, basic in El Paso, TX - 1966 - AIT at Ft. he placement of management, and manufacturing personnel at all levels. ... Began taking short sabbaticals to recharge the ol batteries... all work and no play... went to Oregon for 7 months, whew, enough of that, I missed the rat race and came back to live in Rancho Palos Verdes, and work in Irvine as a Recruiter. - Had to take another one of those sabbaticals for about 7 months and went to Northern California Chester/Lake Almanor, the ultimate recharge place for me, then returned to Work as a Sr. Management and Technical Recruiter for a Recruiting Firm in the Inland Empire (Riverside, Ca). - Still Recruiting School Thank you Bev for the pages from the Yoyogi 1958 yearbook and my 5th grade class. Those pages brought back memories. One of the funny things I remember is; Mom, driving her car into a benji ditch after picking her car up from Yokahama, (sent over from state side) Mom drove off of the base and within 5 minutes had both of the tires on the right side of the car stuck in a benji ditch … too funny, only we couldn’t laugh about it back then… my Dad did though… LOL... I remember kickball at break and my brother and myself being made to take dancing lessons after school at the gym, (waltz, jitterbug, foxtrot, and of course square dancing), then there was listening to the top 40 hits on AFN on Saturday nights, watching sumo wrestling on TV, (was that a bit of culture shock the first time you saw that display or what?) I remember the teen club, boy scouts, the swimming pool, and I remember when it was discovered that the paper script we were using for money on base was being counterfeited, Dad sent brother Bob and I on our bikes early one Saturday morning to collect the old paper script from various people in Dad’s command who lived around Wash Heights. I can remember the commotion around the house when we knew a typhoon was headed our way (my brother Bob and I would sneak out of the house during the eye of the storm when Mom thought we were in our room, we were tarred and feathered when we were discovered missing. Brother Bob took horse riding lessons right outside the base, I still have the scrapbook I made of the royal wedding of Crown Prince Akahito & Michiko Shoda, in 1959, I remember the beautiful park outside of Washington Heights, the Tokyo Tower, and of course the first Godzilla movie made at that time.
