Felecia's Story
Life
After several years of insanity, I decided it was time to decide for myself where and what I was going to do. I currently live about 45 miles south of Chicago and work in a treatment center for adolescents, most of whom are sexual offenders. Most of you knew that I attended the Christian Church but I now attend a Full Gospel Church and many times my family calls me a holyroller or some such thing. Really, I especially love the music. I also met my husband a church and even though after my mistakes I had sworn off of marriage, here I am again. He also put me back in school so I could become qualified for what I have been doing for years and I completed my Masters in Professional Counseling in May, 2004. Between my homework, job and 10 grandchildren, I rarely have time for anything else although I do still make it to Louisville every 4 to 6 weeks to see my mother, daughter and two of the grandchildren. I would love to here from anyone from North Clay and will try to respond as quick as possible.
School
Boy, has it taken me a long time to get educated.
I attended Eastern Illinois University for 2 quarters after high school graduation before I decided to quite and get married.
Then, thanks in part to Bud Zink, I ended up finishing my Associates in Business at Olney Central.
After that, I wen back to Eastern and finished my Degree in Junior High Education. Just when I thought I would be hunting a job teaching, Otis Prather had us mo...Expand for more
ve to the North and I have been here ever since.
Two years ago, after working in a church for ten years and a treatment center for adolescents, my husband and a very good supervisor, talked me into returning to school and getting my therapist degree. I am currently working of that at Olivet Nazarene University and I completed my internship and graduated in the spring of 2004. I never thought I would go back to school at my age. I guess the teacher was right when she said never say never. I'm even looking ahead to my next endeavor. I'll let you know when I make up my mind.
Workplace
I worked as a church secretary for ten years and felt I had to do a lot of counseling that I was not qualified for. FOllowing a divorce, I took a second job to help make ends meet and really loved the work but working 70 hours a week didn't leave a lot of time to do anything else.
I finally quit the job at church and kept the job at IOA. I continued working as a night counselor before I remarried and my husband had the silly idea that a husband and wife should sleep together. Imagine that. I then took a job as a recreational therapist on a girl's unit. I was injured at work and had to have back surgery (the second one). After that I went to work in the Nursing Department while I was on light duty. Nurse Julie decided to keep me and I remained there for 3 years while I went to school. I am currently still with IOA but I now work on Program 5 as a therapist.
