Fernand's Story
Retired Med Tech (4 1/2 years in clinical laboratory and 10 1/2 years in the Department of Hematology/Oncology - Sickle Cell/Thalassemia Screening Program) and Respiratory Therapist with a total of 25 1/2 years of service at the old New Orleans Veterans Affaires Medical Center. (as in learning and becoming proficient in new fields of study) and finally, personally rewarding when you made a difference in the course of a patient’s outcome and that patient recognizes your role in their outcome and says two words that make it all worth while, “Thank you”. Those two words make all the years of study, late nights at the hospital and long discussions picking another Therapist’s, nurse or Doctor’s brain so that you have a little better understanding of what took place, why and most importantly by doing so you have gained a better approach on what to do the next time you run into a similar situation. It has been a challenging and tremendously rewarding career. It’s a path that I would happily follow again.
