Filiberto's Story
Life
After high school, I graduated from the University of Illinois in 1974 and from Harvard Law School in 1977. I was then law clerk for a year for Judge Wm. Timbers of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York City. I have practiced law in Washington, D.C. since October 1978.
In June 1978, I married Susan Currie Whilton (Suki), a New England native, a 1976 graduate of Colby College and a 1978 M.A. from Tufts Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy. We have three daughters: Caroline (1982), Olivia (1984), and Jordan (1986). Caroline is at Bowd...Expand for more

I'm a partner at the D.C. law firm of Steptoe & Johnson. I represent business lenders, equity investors, and other participants in corporate finance transactions internationally and in the United States. I have also negotiated agreements in several nationally significant bankruptcies and workouts and represent creditors in bankruptcies and finance-related litigation. I am co-author of International Business Law and its Environment, an international business transactions textbook.
