Charles's Story
I've been married to Ellen (Haselkorn) for 54 years & have two grown daughters, Jillana & Tamara. My first grandchild, Jake Hunter Esposito was born in March '99 & my second grandchild, Alexa Nicole, was born on April 7, 2001. In 1997, I took early retirement from SUNY Farmingdale, where I had directed the Visiting Writers Program for 18 years. I received 3 excellence in teaching awards during my 27 years at Farmingdale & attained the rank of Distinguished Service Professor. I've published 19 books, including *The Death Mazurka*, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1990, *Blood to Remember: American Poets on the Holocaust*, *The Firewalkers* (1996), *Country of Memory* (2004), *Chopin's Piano* (2006), *In the Language of Women* (2011), *In the Path of Lightning: Selected Poems* (2012), *Veils, Halos & Shackles: International Poetry on the Oppression and Empowerman of Women* (2012), and *In the Wake of the Glacier: New Selected Poems*.
