Flora's Story
Hi SPHS!! It's been so great catching up on life with some classmates and friends both here and on fb! I hope all of you are well. Just a little update on me during these recent times. It certainly has been a historic year. Who ever thought we would live through a worldwide pandemic? I pray you are getting through it relatively unscathed. I have lost a few friends, thankfully no close relatives, save a cousin in NM. I chose to retire last March (2020) after 36+ years with the LA County Sheriff's Dept. I never intended to be locked down for the next year. That part has been so hard and boring. My co-workers all say I got out at the perfect time, but I feel like I should be fighting the fight with them....oh well, my health has to be my priority now, right? I am however still feeling like I need to contribute somehow and am seeking possible employment with the VA. However, almost 3 years ago, my husband and I purchased a home in north Idaho and have been traveling back and forth trying to decide if we should join the exodus of Californians scattered around several different states now. So many of my friends have moved away. So, as we continue to contemplate this next phase of our lives...I want to wish you all good health, comfort to those of you who have lost loved ones, and love to you all!

es, lakes, rivers and just lots of nature and beauty! We have a very close community of neighbors who also came from different states to settle in this rural setting. I still visit CA about every 2-3 months as my daughter still lives there in her childhood home which she now owns. We spend our days going on ATV rides or, trimming the many pine trees which is now our "lawn". We plan to visit many of the lakes here in North ID and MT. Retirement has been an adjustment just as moving to a quiet, snowy, and beautiful slow paced life has been. I am beginning a new love affair with this lifestyle more every day. I hope all of you are well...my heart breaks each time we lose a classmate. Take care and take time to enjoy nature wherever you call home!
UPDATE 3/28/2023
Well, so far 2023 has been a rough year. In early January, I flew to California to take care of my mother. On February 14, after taking her out to lunch, my mom fell and broke a hip. On February 15 (her 88th birthday), she had surgery. She was not able to fully recover all her systems and she went to be with the Lord on February 21. It is the hardest loss next to a spouse I suppose. I returned home to Idaho last week. I was able to be by her side as she took her last breath and tell her how much I loved her. Everything seems like dream now but I know my mom is with the Lord now looking into His beautiful face. I will miss her and my dad until I take my last breath....
