Floyd's Story
After graduation from Fork Union Military Academy in May 1976 and then attended and graduated from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky and later Eastern Kentucky University in Computer Electronics. While at EKU I worked at the Daniel Boone National Forest Supervisor's Office in Winchester, Kentucky as an Engineering Technician.
Upon graduation from EKU in 1982 I took a job in Sunnyvale, California with Lockheed Missiles & Space Company as a Satellite Operations Associate Engineer where I wrote five large scale computer programs, three of which were for the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization, aka, Star Wars. I worked for Lockheed/Lockheed-Martin for 32 years in four locations in different job functions: Sunnyvale, California (eight years); Newington, Virginia (three ye...Expand for more
ars); North Yorkshire, England (seventeen years); and Boulder, Colorado (four years). I retired in May 2014.
In 2011 I fulfilled a lifelong ambition of becoming a Certified Firearms Instructor and currently hold certification in Pistol and Shotgun. I am also a Certified Range Safety Officer. I have qualified as Distinguished Expert with a handgun.
While living in England I took my BMW 335i to Germany's Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit (Nordschleife) for 30 laps. Never going to break the track record but ten minutes 37 seconds isn't too bad.
I have vacationed on six of the seven continents of the world, the only one I've missed starts and ends with the letter A. Hint: Penguins are cool. I have been to 38 countries in the world and 42 states of the US of A plus Washington, D.C.
