Jim's Story

After graduating from NCSU in 1975, I worked in the furniture and wood products industry for 23 years. Notable companies were Masonite, Boise Cascade, Weyerhaeuser, American Woodmark, and Marsh Furniture in High Point, NC. I had one 6 year stint of entrepreneurship starting in 1981. I had a shop where I was making custon furniture frames for the designer and decorator market in High Point, NC. I've been married three times (which is not a good thing but), I have 3 daughters and 2 sons. The two boys are the youngest at 19 and 20. My wife and I moved to Orlando, Florida on a whim in 1998 and started a marketing business with my old college room mate. With alot of hard work it flourished and has become very successful. This success is not of my achievement but a blessing from God. Certainly I could not not of made all those correct decisions, in hind sight. We loved Florida. The people were very international and progressive, not necessarily liberal. The churches there are all one could desire in an active and ...Expand for more
captivating Christian environment. Eventually, we knew we wanted to move back to the mid atlantic... south of the Mason-Dixon Line. After seven years in the sunshine state, we moved to Lexington, VA. Here in Lexington, we have Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee buried; we have two universities: Washington & Lee and Virginia Military Institute; and a thriving small town in a rural setting... in between the mountains in the Shenandoah Valley. We live on a small farm of 41 acres in a loghome with a view of the mountains all of the way to Roanoke. We have a dog, rabbits and chickens. I love to fish at Cape Hatteras, Ocracoke, and Portsmouth Island. I've been driving the beach there since 1987. My sister Fran lives in Paoli with her husband Rich Alloway. My Dad died a couple years ago and my mom lives in Morgantown WV. She's in better health than I am... not that I'm having problems but she is really healthy! I went to our 40th class reunion two years ago. It was alot of fun. If we have one at fifty, count me in.
