Forrest's Story
Never accomplished much in high school....did the minimum to get by. After a year at Southeastern, quit college and went to work in the oil patch for almost a year. Decided I did not want to do that for the rest of my life so to LSU I went and entered the College of Design and majored in Landscape Architecture, a five year program. This is where I learned dedication to something you really wanted as it took 160 semester hours to graduate. Graduated in 1976 with a BLA and married a Cajun Cutie that winter, and have been married for almost 43 years now. It took a stint in the oil field to get me to realize you can use your head or your muscles and the head was a lot easier. and safer...something I never realized in high school. We have been blessed over the years with two beautiful daughters and I retired at 62 and Rita retired at 59. Now we travel and when home walk out the front yard to the South Holston River and fish for rainbow and brown trout while kayaking. Life is good!. as we call her Turkey. Sadly I lost the love of my life after 45 years of marriage to cancer. I miss her so much. The other picture is of us after we landed on Mackinac Island, Michigan. A really cool place to visit for a few days, however being from the deep South, they do have a tendency to make fun of the way you talk. No cars allowed, access by ferry and then you walk or rent a bike.
My favorite hobby is woodworking as evidenced by the black walnut bench picture. Currently I now build walnut keepsake boxes which I generally donate to Elizabeth Chapel UMC for the Fall bazar.
Many of you may remember my older brother Randy. Randy was killed by two pit bulls in his front yard on 20 August 2023. This past weekend we held his celebration of life in Kernersville, NC where I delivered his eulogy. He was a well recognized member of his community, graduated from USL in pre-law. He then went to Wake Forest University and received his Juris Doctorate and specialized in Tax Law and became a CPA. He was taken before his time.
