Frances's Story
Life
I'm a copywriter, born and raised in L.A., now living in Santa Cruz, CA, by way of San Francisco. This is how I got here:
After graduating from University High in 1970, I went to Cal State Northridge and graduated in 1976 with a B.A. in English. My first job out of college was as an editor and copywriter for a West Hollywood company that marketed books, magazines and courses on beating the game of Blackjack (I'd never even been to Vegas at the time!).
I worked very briefly as a (completely inadequate) houseparent at a boys' home in Palmdale, then, in 1978, moved to San Francisco where I lived for 3 years, married, and divorced.
In 1982, weary of the crowds and craziness of S.F., I moved to Ben Lomond, a beautiful small town in the redwoods 9 miles above Santa Cruz. At the time, I worked as a co...Expand for more
pywriter for Inmac, a Santa Clara-based company that marketed computer products through an award-winning direct mail catalog. After rising to the position of Copy Director, I left Inmac in 1987 to start my own copywriting business.
By this time, I'd moved into Santa Cruz, proper. Since that time, I've owned and operated Frances Cherman & Associates from my home. My morning commute (down the hall) takes about 5 seconds, and there's zero traffic (unless you count the dog). Santa Cruz is an idyllic little town, and I'm fortunate to have a great group of friends here.
I'd love to connect with any of my former classmates from Uni, Webster, or even Richland Ave. Elementary School. You can also write to me directly at frances[at]cherman.com (please don't share this address with any other Web sites, thank you).
