Frances's Story

I will visit Australia and New Zealand for the second time this fall and I have friends and acquaintances all over the world, literally. I really don't know if there is any particular teacher that I would like to see again, specifically. I know they would be surpirsed how I have turned out tho'. Nothing, wild. I was very conforming as I want to play sports so bad I wouldn't do anything to endanger participation. No idea even who it was anymore so I don't know what happened to them, nor do I live in the past. As loyal friend. I am retired from the police department and only work if and when I wanted to work. I would spend my time teaching CJ, taking photos, writing and traveling. I am continually surprised I have stayed in one job for nearly 32 years. I also am surprised that I have not found anyone that meets my standards for a life mate. I am surprised that doesn't bother me and that I like who I am. I'm not going to change who I have become to suit any man. Take me or leave me as I am. I think I would have become a forensic pathogolgist if I changed anything. What I chose and who am, is part of me. And I'm okay. Being a police officer but it isn't the job that's weird. The people (clients) I have encountered have been weird, to say the least. I have lived in Farmington, Brighton, Waterloo and Davenport. The first moves were due to my father's work. We moved back to Farmington so I could be involved in sports and I actually graduated high school. I moved to Waterloo for college and Davenport for my first job that I just retired from after 32 years. I turn over and go back to sleep when I wake up at 5:30 am now. I read the paper and start my day much later now, thank goodness. I do a wide variety of things for relaxing; read, write, garden, crafts, whatever suits my mood. If I'm going to work somewhere, I don't a badge, a weapon, but just peace of mind to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I has not been difficult to adust to "civilian" life again, much easier than I first expected. I always wanted to be a ? when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right. Reading usually, watch a video, work on genealogy and less frequently work out, go for a walk, see a softball game or travel. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a vehicle, a computer, and cell phone to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My mother probably the biggest inspiration as many people pick their parent. My dad has been too long. It's a really big responsibility to hang a "hero" label on someone as we are, afterall, just people. I watch alot of women's sports in community and NCAA softball and women's basketball and wish the past had been different, but hey, it can't be changed. I would play softball or shoot hoops in a heartbeat if I was offered the chance or was physically able. After three (3) shoulder surgers, one knee surgery and one foot surgically re-built, I don't know if I could participate. I would love to try, I am a co-sponsor of a softball team this fall. I have to get my happies from the side line. I d...Expand for more
espise reality TV, because it is not REALITY. It's having a television following people around while they behave irresponsibly and outrageously. The majority of us lead regular normal lives. Getting up when we want to sleep in, going to a job we may hate, but doing it anyway 'cause we have to put food on the table and a job is a job. I love all animals and have four fur children, of which I would have more if I ever get to move to an outlying area rather than town. I have discovered geneaology which has opened up my history obession for more reading and research. I am gratefully and happy to be teaching, to hopefully inspire younger people to go in public service and perform in a professional arena and to improve the career field. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the kitchen and bath and add on a n addition so the kitchen and bath could be larger and surrround porch. My dream home would be large, farm house with a surround porch and some outbuilding on a small acreage. I only have fur children which I have become attached to as much, if not more to than I might had children. My nieces and nephews' kids are great source of entertainment as well as my friends' children and grandchildren If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to my assorted favorite charities, then spend the rest on the dream home and acreage, help family and travel. My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be married with kids, retired or dead. I was so completely naive but yet, somewhat accurate. I am retired from 32 years in law enforcement. The job was not necessarily a dream job, but I went into but sounded interesting and the pay was regular. I found myself frustrated because the so-called commadrie was not there for me. I ended up feeling very stifled and under utilized. Was I truly? I don't know, I did earn an income that allowed me to continue my education and find other things to occupy my time and energy not utilized in law enforcement. Is anyone truly happy in their careers? If they are, they are very fortunate. I didn't achieve my goal of being one of the first lieutenants at my department. By the time, I might of been selected, too many of the command staff had developed an erroneous opinion of me and I refused to become on of the "yes" people or clones they wanted and ended up not wanting the goal, in the end work out better for me. My best friend would tell you I'm too conservative, don't know how ro have fun but know that I am happy in my skin and I am who am, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as unemotional and closed off. Pretty much the same. After wearing a uniform for 32 years, I still am very comfortable in "uniform type", I wear business casual easily, khakis and knit polo type shirt, nearly daily for my class room. The rest of time, summer: a tank/sleeveless shirt and shorts. Fall: jeans or slacks, relaxing in sweats or sportswear. I have found I find comfort more important than style although I can clean up in classic style when required. Friends say I''m boring because my separtates are in neutral colors.
