Francis's Story
Life
After high school, Joined the Air Force. Became a space communications specialist (working with satellites)
in 1980 attended the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
Left in 1981. Finished Air Force commitment in San Antonio TX
Began working for JES Inc as a computer programmer in 1982. Later I would be part owner and vice president.
In 1984, married the former Ms. Carol Maxey, of Houston TX.
Jessica Ruth Govers was born in 1987.
In 1988, I graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, with degrees in Math and Computer Science.
In 1989, I left JES to join McDonnell Douglas at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. I would later be the Lead Engineer for Command and Control for the International Space Station.
later in 1989, Corbin Xavier Govers was born.
In 1992, space station contract ended. Moved to Paris France with CACI to work air traffic control simulation for Eurocontrol.
A year later, transferred myself to Washington DC
Worked at Naval Surface Warfare Center.
Worked at TASC, Inc. as director of the Advanced Simulation Laboratory, doing research in Virtual Reality.
After five years in DC, we moved back to Houston TX. I joined SGI (Silicon Graphics ...Expand for more
Inc) as the on-site systems engineer for the Space Center. SGI promoted me to Global Manager for Decision Support Centers.
After leaving SGI in 2003, went to work for Northrop Grumman in Los Angeles on the Joint Strike Fighter program. California did not "work out", so we moved back to Fort Worth Texas, still on JSF.
In 2006, accepted a job offer in Austin Texas with SAIC as the deputy chief engineer for robotics on the Army Future Combat Systems Program.
In 2008, due to housing crisis, I joined Elbit Systems of America as Chief Engineer, working primarily on unmanned vehicles / robots.
To date: married 24 years. Jessica is now 21 and attends Baylor University, where she plays trumpet in the marching band and majors in International Studies. Corbin is a freshman at Austin Community College and plays in the jazz band (tenor sax). After being a stay-at-home mom, my wife Carol now works full time.
I'm still involved in Science Fair, I hold a commercial pilot's license, like to scuba dive, dabble in art as a commercial artist, travel all around the world, and build robots as a hobby. I am a regular contributor to ROBOT magazine I'd enjoy hearing from anyone that was at HLB.
